Jean-Philippe Martin. p. 22-31 in 9e Art : les Cahiers du
Musée de la Bande Dessinée, no. 5 (Jan. 2000). -- (Dossier
-- English summary
(from p. 150): "The Irresistible Ascension of the
Independent Publishers. Amok, the Association, La Cinquième
couche, Cornélius, Ego comme X, Fréon, the Requins marteau,
6 Pieds sous Terre: these are some of the main independent
publishers that have emerged during the last decade. Small
organizations, often founded and run by creators, they
maintain an uncompromising conception of creation and
produce objects that are distinct from the traditional
album. Their rise has been steady, as Jean-Philippe Martin
shows. He predicts they will influence the future of comics
in general." -- Call no.: folio PN6700.N44no.5

chair.

traded them for his own freedom, so that he can return to
humanity.
"Rose" 8 p. -- Summary: Sloane is in a junkyard, a
"cosmic sargasso," and tries to put together a ship with
which to return to the Imperium. His efforts are sabotaged
by a robot named Koll, who is hiding out after having

navigational computer named Rose, who discovers that the
pipe organ Koll has been playing is actually a functioning
spaceship. Sloane and Rose take off in a "powerful symphony
of sound."
"Torquedara Varenkor" 8 p. -- Summary: Sorceror
Torquedara Varenkor controls the space lanes to the human
Imperium, and catches Sloane trying to enter. He sets up a

manner of a riddle, the champion can follow Sloane to every
dimension but one. Sloane's computer, Rose, changes herself
into a woman and tells him to seek the dimension of love.
She takes the hateful side of him to Torquedara, with a
bomb, and destroys the sorcerer.
"O Sidarta" 8 p. -- Summary: Sloane is escaping on one
of Torquedara's
dragons when the
crew of the ship "O Sidarta" captures him. He escapes

We learn that the ship is his own former command. He makes
plans to go to ancient Terra and begin operations against
the Imperium.
"Terra" 8 p. -- Summary: Arriving on Terra, Sloane and
the crew of the "O Sidarta" find no humans. The beings they
do find say their master is named Wul, but Wul is not in
evidence. They use the planet as a base for raids on the
Imperium. Finally Wul notices, puts them to sleep in their
ship, and tells them to leave. Earth is no longer a place
for humans.
