Aphasia.
   Red Rascal's War / by G. B. Trudeau.-- Kansas City, MO :
   Andrews McMeel Pub., 2011. -- 240 p. : col. ill. ; 24 cm.
-- (A Doonesbury Book) -- "Red Rascal's War features the
proto-legendary exploits of Afghan slacker hero Sorkh Razil
(a.k.a. Jeff Redfern), but, as always, there's much, much
more. From the trailer park romance of MIT hotshot Alex and
aphasic vet Toggle, to the machinations of White House
aides bent on cutting off the boss's chill pills, to
marijuana entrepreneur Zonker's backyard test plot, to the
deeply appalling send-off of the notorious Granny D,
Trudeaus's wildly eclectic creation marches madly on--as
fresh and inventive as ever." -- Call no.: PN6728.D65R44

major book deal with Random House, Sam and Zonker make a
pilgrimage to the royal wedding, and Ray gets sent home,
which isn't pretty. From the marriage of MIT hotshot Alex
to aphasic vet Toggle, to the unfurling of Donald Trump's
locks, Trudeau's wildly eclectic creation marches on-as

Aphrodisia

 Aphrodisia / Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri. -- Rockville Centre, NY : Heavy Metal, 1997. -- 55 p. : col. ill. ; 31 cm. -- (Druuna) -- Includes a helpful paragraph on p. 4, "The Story So Far." -- Genre: Erotic science fiction. -- Call no.: PN6767.S4A7 1997

Summary: As part of his search for a cure for the disease, Will is in the computer looking for Druuna, who is "united with the spirit," i.e., also in the dream-like interior landscape of the computer. Shaster helps him survive to wake up, and Doc theorizes that part of each mind that enters the computer is left behind as a kind of imperfect dream-clone. Druuna's still in the computer, but sends back a cryptic message that spells "Aphrodite," though nobody can decipher it. She meets another version of herself, forgets her own name and calls herself Aphrodisia. They are approached by a partial of Will, and Aphrodisia then remembers who she is. She meets Paula in a brothel, and they determine that Paula is a memory left behind by Doc. Druuna (one of them) wakes up in an emergency module that's leaving the main ship, and sees the bodies of Will, Doc, and Terry in suspended animation. A tape left by Will explains that the disease got so bad they decided to abandon the ship and blow it up. Shastar also turns up on the monitors to say goodbye, and points out to the Druuna we've been following that the real Druuna's body is also aboard. The ship blows up, and the four people in the escape pod seem to be okay.

Apocalypse : the Eyes of Doom

Apocalypse : The Eyes of Doom / by Juan Giménez and Roberto Dal Pra ; translated by Michela Nonis ; edited by Debra Rabas ; lettered by Adam Kubert. -- Northhampton, Mass. : Kitchen Sink Press, 1993. -- 54 p. : col. ill. ; 29 cm. -- "Mature readers". -- "As seen in Heavy Metal magazine". -- Translation of Le Regard de l'Apocalypse, originally published in 1991 by Bagheera Editeur, Paris. -- Initial setting: Vietnam War. -- Call no.: PN6790.A73G5 R413 1993

Summary: The story begins in 1972, when an American Sergeant named Dick (or Dan) Curry sees a little North Vietnamese boy who can destroy helicopters just by looking at them. Years later, Curry is a mystery writer in Los Angeles. He hears of a secret society of Vietnamese origin whose leader seems to have strange powers, and is trying to take over organized crime in Chinatown. The leader is an unscrupulous woman who had also seen the boy destroy the helicopters, and had raised him as a son. The boy's name is Tai San. Now from behind a mirror he kills on his mother's command, and she pretends the power is coming from her. Each time he uses the power he gets weaker, and he begins to realize his mother doesn't really care about him. Curry sneaks into the society's headquarters to see what's going on, just as Tai San finally refuses to kill, and in her anger his mother says that she's not really his mother. Given that as the case, he immediately stares at her until she explodes. Telling Curry to watch, he looks in a mirror and explodes himself. Curry goes home to write the story we've just finished reading.

The Apocalypse Plan / written by Rafael Nieves; illustrated by
Dan Dougherty; introduction, Gary Reed. -- United States :
   Transfuzion Publishing, 2009. -- 1 v. : ill. ; 26 cm. --
Summary (from publisher description via SkyRiver): What if
Heaven and Hell were rival corporations and instead of
sales, their charts tracked souls? And what if one company
decided to initiate a hostile takeover of the other? The
Apocalypse plan tells this story. Mr. Abaddon is called to
the office to investigate a macabre scene; a board room
full of Morningstar employees, all dead in a grisly way.
The cause of their deaths is a mystery; toxic gas?
Infection? murder? The no-nonsense Abaddon attempts to
solve the problem in the most immediate way possible, with
the help of an impressionable young woman named Theda.
Together they discover a plot to destroy Morningstar and
its influence on mankind, a plot masterminded by their
rival company, the Grace Corporation. Can they stop this
assault in time? Or will the world suffer a hostile
takeover of biblical proportions? -- Horror genre. -- Call

or Mumbai. The city creaks under the pressure of explosive
growth. Whole districts are built in a week. The story

is a living Yin Yang symbol, a perfect synthesis of Light
and Dark magic. She is a creature of opposites. Beautiful,
yet deadly--spiritual, yet soulless. The vampire Deshwitat
came to China to visit her creators in the hope that they
could teach him Light Magic. A wandering swordsman who
cannot die: Three hundred years ago, Rett Buttler was one
of Deshwitat's only friends. After the Light Sorcerer
Kalutika imprisoned Deshwitat, Rett fought to avenge his
friend and would have died, had his opponent not had other
plans. Kalutika cursed Rett with immortality--dooming him
to witness the Apocalypse that the sorceror would bring
forth. An unexpected savior: Deshwitat began his journey
seeking only revenge, but now he has the weight of the
world on his shoulders. His enemy, Kalutika, is prophesized
"to bring about the end of the world," and Deshwitat must
master Light Magic in order to stop him. When Eastern monks
fail Deshwitat, only one option remains--he must travel

Apollo Theater (New York, N.Y. : 125th Street)

col. ill. ; 25 cm. -- Includes index. -- Summary (from
publisher via OCLC): "Writer Ted Fox and artist James Otis
Smith bring to life Harlem's legendary theater in this
graphic novel adaptation of Fox's definitive, critically
acclaimed history of the Apollo. Since its inception as an
African-American theater in 1934, the Apollo, and the
thousands of entertainers who performed there, have led the
way in the presentation of swing, bebop, rhythm and blues,
jazz, gospel, soul, funk and hip-hop-along with the latest
in dance and comedy. The Apollo has nurtured and featured
thousands of artists, many of whom have become legends. The
beauty they have given the world-their art-transcends the
hatred, ignorance, and intolerance that often made their
lives difficult. Today, the Apollo enjoys an almost
mythical status. With its breathtaking art, this graphic
novel adaptation of Showtime at the Apollo brings to life
the theater's legendary significance in music history,
African American history, and to the culture of New York

is a love story carried by rolling fog, terminal illness,

make sense of one's unraveling. In his most ambitious book

adolescence-- not the cliched melodramatic outbursts of
rebellion, but the countless tiny moments of madness, the
vague relief of medication, and mixed blessing of family
