The End of the Trail

The End of the Trail / Jean-Michel Charlier ; Jean "Moebius" Giraud ; Jean-Marc Lofficier, Randy Lofficier, translators. -- New York : Epic Comics, 1990. -- 94 p. : col. ill. ; 28 cm. -- (Blueberry ; 5) -- Contents: The Last Card ; The End of the Trail. -- Originally published in 1983 and 1986 as: La Dernière Carte and La Bout de la Piste. -- Western genre. -- Call no.: PN6747.C44E5 1990

Note: This 46 page story constitutes the second half of the Epic Comics album published as Blueberry 5: The End of the Trail. It is also the tenth and final story of the "Confederate Gold" series.
Summary: Mike Blueberry takes the train from Presidio toward Denver, but is recognized from wanted posters and the alarm is telegraphed ahead. He gets into General Dodge's private car and gives him the proof of his innocence in the matter of the Confederate gold, then jumps from the train and heads for Francisville. At Francisville he plans to find Warden Kelly who set him up as the scapegoat for the assassination attempt on President Grant. In Alabama, Blake and Angel Face are waiting for him. Blake kills Kelly before Blueberry can get any information, but Blueberry gets himself captured and finds out for himself who was behind the plot: General "Golden Mane" Allister. The plot to kill Grant is still active, and this time Allister plans to pin the dynamiting of Grant's train on Blueberry. Blueberry escapes with incriminating papers of Allister's, shows them to Grant, and saves the day. His record is wiped clean, his lieutenant's commission is restored, and Vigo's gold is his to keep. He immediately heads west hoping to marry Chihuahua Pearl.
