Alarcón, Daniel, 1977-
City of Clowns / Daniel Alarcón, Sheila Alvarado. -- New
York : Riverhead Books, 2015. -- 138 p. : ill. ; 24 cm --
Translated from the Spanish of Ciudad de Payasos. --
Summary (from publisher via OCLC): Oscar "Chino" Uribe is a
young Peruvian journalist for a local tabloid paper. After
the recent death of his philandering father, he must
confront the idea of his father's other family, and how
much of his own identity has been shaped by his father's
murky morals. At the same time, he begins to chronicle the
life of street clowns, sad characters who populate the
violent and corrupt city streets of Lima, and is drawn into
their haunting, fantastical world. This remarkably
affecting story by Daniel Alarcon was included in his
acclaimed first book, War by Candlelight, and now, in
collaboration with artist Sheila Alvarado, it takes on a
new, thrilling form. This graphic novel, with its short
punches of action and images, its stark contrasts between
light and dark, truth and fiction, perfectly corresponds to
the tone of Chino's story. With the city of Lima as a
character, and the bold visual language from the story,
City of Clowns is moving, menacing, and brilliantly vivid."

(June 1959). -- Summary (by Amy Lazet): Dagwood is snacking
before bed, but Blondie tells him he will sleep better if
he doesn't. Dagwood disagrees, since snacking gives him
vivid, colorful dreams. He has a bowl of spaghetti, and
dreams of kings and flying and beautiful maidens, until
Blondie awakens him in a panic. The alarm never went off!
She sends Daisy the dog to wake the children while she
hustles Dagwood along. After a frantic flurry of activity,
Dagwood and the children leave for work and school.
Suddenly, Daisy and Blondie notice the newspaper on the
stoop. It's Sunday! "Be brave, Daisy," Blondie murmurs as
they clutch each other in nervous apprehension while
Dagwood and the kids storm furiously back into the house.
