Last God Standing : Ragnarök, vol. 1 / story & art by
Walter Simonson. -- San Diego, CA : IDW Publishing, 2017.
-- 1 v. : col. ill. ; 26 cm. -- Summary (from OCLC):
Ragnarök, the doom of the gods, has finally occurred. But
the long-held belief that evil would be destroyed along
with the gods in that final conflagration proved false.
Only the gods died. The Nine Worlds collapsed and became
the Dusk Lands, a vast twilight realm inhabited by men,
trolls, demons, and shattered kingdoms, under the tyranny
of the Great Enemies. After hundreds of years, a single god
emerged into the post-Ragnarök world, Thor, the God of
Thunder. But Angantyr, the Lord of the Dead, has discovered
his reappearance, and unleashes his draugar, the undead
walkers, against the Thunder God, seeking to destroy the
last vestige of the former worlds, and the only hope for
the present one. -- Superhero genre. -- Call no.:

Graphic Novel Project, Stanford University ; edited by Adam
Johnson and Tom Kealey. -- Palo Alto, Calif. : Stanford
University, 2008. -- 213 p. : ill. ; 23 cm. -- Summary:
"Raised in the shadow of genocide, a young woman must make
her way in the markets of Phnom Penh. She has a cart full
of fresh fruit to make drinks for the tourists. They call
her Shake Girl. Though the Khmer Rouge broke her family
apart and left her parents poor and infirm, Shake Girl has
a dream, to become a dancer and singer in karaoke videos.
She has beauty and talent. She is only fourteen. Her idol
is Piseth Pilika, a classically trained dancer whos charm
has captivated all of Cambodia. Shake Girl wishes nothing
more than to follow in Pilika's footsteps and
unfortunately, she will. First, she must make it out of the
streets of Phnomn Penh, find a way to support her family
and navigate the treacherous world of Cambodian karaoke
clubs, which are filled with corrupt officials, former
Khmer Rouge officers and men with unlimited power. Two men
will present themselves to Shake Girl, each claiming to
have her best interests at heart, though they have vastly
different ways of showing it. And only one will be there
for her when she loses everything. In a nation where
ancient traditions and institutions have been shattered by
war, where men scramble to possess power, money and women
of beauty, the benevolent forces of ancient Apsara statues
direct their gazes toward Shake Girl. In their weathered
expressions of patience and wisdom, they remind her that
peace and beauty can be found only on the inside." --

fever of war, one man will be forced to decide between
family and country. Tsutomu Yamaguchi is a navy engineer
for a war that is all but lost. When a mission arises that
separates him from his family, Yamaguchi makes a fateful,
haunting decision. The mission: to help design a Japanese
battleship. The destination: Hiroshima. Fearful that the
Americans will invade Nagasaki while he is away, Yamaguchi
gives his wife hopeless instructions. But he is unaware
that it is the dawn of the atomic age. When an act of
unspeakable destruction teaches Yamaguchi the value of
life, he must risk everything to return to his wife and
child and prevent the death he had imagined for them.
Assisted by his friends Iwanaga and Sato, Yamaguchi returns
from Hiroshima having witnessed horrors that no person had
seen before. Yamaguchi's journey from the heart of
humankind's most destructive weapon is a story about a man
who experiences senseless destruction and reevaluates his
concept of life, love, country and duty." -- Historical

idealism, self-discovery, and loss under one of the
twentieth-century's most repressive political regimes. Set
against a backdrop of world-changing events during the
headiest years of the Cuban Revolution, Goodbye, My Havana
follows young Connie Veltfort as her once relatively
privileged life among a community of anti-imperialist
expatriates turns to progressive disillusionment and
heartbreak. The consolidation of Castro's position brings
violence, cruelty, and betrayal to Connie's doorstep. And
the crackdown that ultimately forces her family and others
to flee for their lives includes homosexuals among its
targets--Connie's coming-of-age story is one also about the
dangers of coming out. Looking back with a mixture of
hardheaded clarity and tenderness at her alter ego and a
forgotten era, with this gripping graphic memoir Anna
Veltfort takes leave of the past even as she brings
neglected moments of the Cold War into the present." --
