York : Ibooks, 2003. -- 158 p. : ill. ; 24 cm. -- Science
fiction genre. -- Call no.: PN6790.J33 T3263

Scene 1. p. 15-48. -- Summary: A baby is born
in Japan, who floats in the air. Meanwhile, grim-faced
exploding terrorists are plaguing the city and a Director Endo
refers to them as laboratory products. A Lieutentant Colonel
orders Endo to raise the floating boy, without his mother, in
secrecy under the code name "Icaro." This is done at the
National Institute of Natural Science, in the Ryukyu Islands.
Scene 2. p. 49-70. -- Summary: Icaro grows
up with his levitation
powers monitored and measured. He has a large greenhouse-like
"garden" in which to practice flying. At age 2, one of his
teachers, an anthropologist named Yukiko Komuro, brings him
birds for a present, but the Director won't let him have them.
They would be a breach of his carefully maintained isloation.
Yukiko worries about him.
Scene 3. p. 71-92. -- Summary: Endo worries
about it being time to reveal the results of their research on
Icaro. Meanwhile a truckload of exploding mutants, called the
"Glass Shoes," attacks the Department of Defense in Tokyo. The
Lieutenant Colonel decides to visit Icaro and see him fly. Endo
takes Yukiko off of her teaching job, and tells her not to
"stimulate" his "feelings" as they begin a testing phase.
Scene 4. p. 93-114. -- Summary: The Glass
Shoes seem to have been a defense research project that went
awry. One of the Glass Shoes works in the Department of
Defense, and he is in charge of destroying the rest. The
Lieutenant Colonel tells Tanaka to work even harder destroying
them. Icaro is tested in a wind tunnel, and is able to fly
against strong winds without creating turbulence. The
Lieutenant Colonel is excited to see this, and asks Tanaka if
he could defeat Icaro.
Scene 5. p. 115-136. -- Summary: Icaro has
found a way to hide from the security cameras in his garden,
and the scientists are frantic because he has to have a serum
injection or he will die. Actually he has found an air duckt in
the cameras' blind spot and is roaming the ductwork of the
complex. The "final phase" of his project is to be brain
surgery so he will be obedient. The search is on, but meanwhile
Icaro is watching Yukiko take a shower.
Scene 6. p. 137-158. -- Summary: Icaro
surprises Yukiko in her quarters, and sees the birds that were
to have been his present. Icaro lets them out of their cage and
flies with them. Just as Icaro and Yukiko seem about to kiss,
soldiers break in. Icaro struggles with them and almost
escapes, but is finally snared in a web of cables.

I'm Far Too Young to Look This Hot / by Tony Cochran. --
Kansas City, Mo. : Andrews McMeel, 2003. -- 128 p. : ill. ;
23 cm. -- (Agnes) -- Summary (from OCLC): Somewhere between
here and anywhere, in a trailer park called The People's
Court, lives a bespectacled, floppy footed girl named
Agnes. Her age falls exactly between the wide-eyed times
when fairy tales are embraced as truth and the darker,
later years when cynicism starts to take its toll. The
other players in this small sideshow are Granma, a
hardworking, underpaid Golden Ager who worries that she may
be a little too old for the challenge of raising a
granddaughter, and Trout, Agnes's best friend. Trout was
named after one of her father's biggest passions and,
according to her, she was only three numbers from being
christened Powerball. Trout tries to temper Agnes's
stigmatism of hope with her own doctrine of realism.
Together they weather the major tribulations that only
childhood can make so monumental. Trout aspires to pilot a
soft-serve ice cream machine so all the kids will laugh and
yell "Hey, Ice Cream Lady!" Agnes merely wants to be
crowned lord queen of the unknown universe. They will
probably end up on different bowling leagues. -- Funny kid
