Astrologers.
"Starlight" (Rork ; 4) / Andreas ; J.-M. & R. Lofficier,
translation. 47 p. in The Graveyard of Cathedrals ;
Starlight (New York : Nantier Beall Minoustchine, 1990). --
Translation of: Lumière d'Étoile. -- Summary: Rork arrives
at a little cliffside village in the Mexican desert, which
has been preparing for a year for an astronomical event
predicted by an ancient painting on the side of the cliff.
The effort is being coordinated by Deliah Darkthorne, or
Low Valley as she now prefers to be called. Low has aged 40
years in the year and a half since teleporting at the end
of the Passages album. She is the one who sent the note
summoning Rork. Low doesn't understand what the "event" is
going to be, only that a beam of light will come down from
the sky and that it will have transformational powers. Low
has placed experiments in the path of the beam, like a
mouse, a cactus, and an apple. The beam comes, and things
change, but the results aren't very comprehensible. Low
takes Rork to another room and shows him her daughter,
Sy-Ra, who is floating in the air stuck between worlds as
Rork was near the end of "Passages." Low wants Rork to take
Sy-Ra to an astrologer to get her fixed up, and Rork
agrees. Then Low eats the apple from the beam experiment,
and seems to gain a new sense of well-being and extended
perceptions. She tells Rork they'll meet again in nine
months, at his house. -- Call no.: PN6747.A542G713 1990

translation. 47 p. in The Graveyard of Cathedrals ;
-- Call no.: PN6747.A542G713 1990

ed. -- New York : Random House, 1979. -- 40 p. : col. ill. ; 28

Adventure) -- Call no.: PN6748.S57A8 1979
Summary: A Smurf becomes obsessed with the
idea of traveling to another planet, and finally comes up with
a plan. He builds a ship in the form of a rocket, with a big
propeller powered by his own pedalling. He pedals valiantly but
it doesn't work, so he retires to his hut in a great
depression. To bring him out of it, Papa Smurf tells him the
problem with the ship has been fixed, feeds him a sleeping
potion, and says to try again. When Astrosmurf falls asleep
pedalling, the rest of the Smurfs disassemble the ship and move
it to the crater of an extinct volcano. When he wakes up the
other Smurfs have transformed themselves into a tribe of
Swoofs, who conduct welcoming exercises that please Astrosmurf
so much he wants to stay the rest of his life. This won't do,
so the next day the Swoofs present a series of tests which
their guest must pass in order to stay with them. He turns out
to be able, through luck, to do all sorts of unreasonable
tasks, so finally they exaggerate the requirements to a point
where he decides to go home. Giving him a sendoff that includes
more sleeping potion, the weary Smurfs move the rocket back to
their own village and welcome the Astrosmurf back as a hero.
