Tintin--Miscellanea.
Télé au Royaume des Ombres / Olivia Clavel. -- Paris : Les
   Humanoïdes Associés, 1983. -- 50 p. : ill. ; 33 cm. -- (Les
Aventures de Télé) -- (Collection Pied Jaloux) -- Summary:
Télé awakes to a power failure with only his/her shadow for
company. Télé follows a parade of prehistoric looking,
Genet-quoting animal monsters, which joins a group of women
truckdrivers and their trucks. A mysterious bodiless shadow
is also following the parade. Télé is captured by the
kamioneuses (or camioneuses). The truckdrivers are then set
upon by a rival gang, the précieuses (or gracieuses), who
drive smaller cars. While trying to escape in the confusion
with a Proust-quoting monster, Télé is captured by the new
gang, but freed by a kiss from the mysterious shadow. Télé
flees with the monsters, pursued by both gangs while the
city begins to flood. The monsters (quoting Robert Desnos)
and Télé make it to a market in the suburbs for a good meal
underwater, chewing their literature. The kamioneuses
refuel and have a beer. Most of the rest of the story is
underwater, with fish going by. Télé is captured by a band
of rockeuses (or rockettes), and the animals flee. Both the
kamioneuses and the gracieuses see the animals without
Télé, and the camioneuses soon attack the rockettes, trying
to retrieve Télé. The rockettes escape on their Vespas with
a wounded Télé. Télé is left in the care of Garance, the
dauphine of the rockettes, who wants to stay home and read
comics anyhow. Her pile of comics includes Popeye, Spirou,
Tintin and The Spirit. Garance takes Télé on a flying
scooter ride, and they visit the Fairy of Domesticity. The
fairy hooks Télé up to a futuramama machine and makes
predictions. Télé's shadow asks the fairy's shadow about
the mysterious shadow. The fairy makes a pay phone ring
where the shadow is and she (with the animals quoting
Robert Desnos again) is reunited with Télé's shadow. Télé
leaves, with the animals quoting Charles Baudelaire and
Arthur Rimbaud, to find the shadow's body. The three gangs
declare peace. While Télé is still searching, the animals
quote Lou Reed & Philip K. Dick. Climbing above the water,
Télé finds his/her true love stuck in another dimension,
but crashes through to a happy ending. -- Lesbian

Summary: Tintin, Captain Haddock, and Snowy fly to Syldavia for a vacation with Cuthbert Calculus. Thompson and Thomson, searching for international art thieves who leave clever forgeries behind, also travel to Syldavia. Calculus is staying near a man-made lake called Lake Pollishoff. Their plane crashes and they are rescued by a local brother and sister, Niko and Nushka. A conspiracy of sabotage goes almost unnoticed as the friends begin their vacation. Then Snowy gets in a fight with a frogman, and the trail leads to an underground cache of stolen art treasures. The thieves kidnap Niko and Nushka and cut the phone wires, demanding Calculus' latest invention, a kind of 3-dimensional photocopier. Tintin catches a ride to the police station with Bianca Castafiore, who happens by in the night. With the help of the police, Tintin orders Calculus' old submarine delivered. Two days later Tintin takes Calculus' new machine to a rendezvous with the kidnappers and is whisked away in the gang's submarine. Haddock discreetly follows in Calculus' submarine. Tintin discovers that his old enemy Rastapopoulos (now calling himself "King Shark") is behind all the evil doings. Niko and Nushka escape in an underwater tank, and Rastapopoulos recovers the tank using a remote control. In the process he discovers Haddock in the other submarine and disables it. He then tries Calculus' duplicating machine and it malfunctions, filling his office with paste. Rastapopoulos decides to flee with the art treasures, but first he traps Tintin, Niko and Nushka in a chamber slowing filling with water. The chamber is set to explode when the water reaches a certain level. Escaping just in time, Tintin pursues King Shark's fleeing submarine in a speedboat. The gang is captured, and the story ends with a village festival in which Haddock is obliged to dance with Castafiore.

Tintin and the Picaros

Tintin and the Picaros / Hergé. -- Boston: Little, Brown, 1978. -- 62 p. : col. ill. ; 30 cm. -- (The Adventures of Tintin) -- Translation of: Tintin et les Picaros (1976). -- Call no.: PN6747.H4T54313 1978

Summary: Archibald Haddock discovers that he doesn't like whiskey anymore. Bianca Castafiore has been imprisoned by General Tapioca in San Theodoros, and accused of conspiring to overthrow the government. Tintin, Haddock and Calculus are named as co-conspirators, supposedly working with their old friend and now rebel guerrilla, General Alcazar. Alcazar's band is called the Picaros. Tapioca gives the three friends safe-conducts and invites them for talks, and Calculus and Haddock fly to San Theodoros. Tintin is suspicious and stays home, but soon follows. The friends are imprisoned in a villa outside of Tapiocapolis, and the Bordurian advisor to General Tapioca plans a raid by false Picaros in which the Tintin, Haddock and Calculus will be killed. Tintin's old friend Pablo is one of their guards, and he arranges for them to escape during a sightseeing trip to a pre-Columbian pyramid. Fleeing in a truck with General Alcazar, they figure out just in time that Pablo has set them up. The truck is destroyed by the army, but the three Europeans flee through the jungle to Doctor Ridgewell and the Arumbaya village. When they get to the Picaro encampment the soldiers are all drunk, because Tapioca has been dropping cases of Loch Lomond. Calculus has invented an anti-alcohol drug that he has been testing on Haddock, and Tintin bargains with Alcazar to provide a cure for the drunkenness of the troops in exchange for the promise of a bloodless revolution. Soon a tour bus on the way to Carnival blunders into the hideout, with Jolyon Wagg and his band aboard. Alcazar gets the tourists drunk, and next morning with his soldiers now sober steals the bus and the band costumes. The bus heads for town and makes a successful revolution during Carnival. Tintin and his friends race to the prison in a Carnival float to rescue the Thom(p)sons, who are facing a firing squad. Castafiore is freed, the band brought down from the hideout, Pablo is forgiven, and everybody goes home.

Sadoul. p. 20-24 in Schtroumpf : les Cahiers de la Bande
Dessinée, no. 22 (1973). -- René Goscinny special issue. --
Summary: Interview, in which Morris talks about
collaborating with Goscinny. He compares Goscinny's writing
of Lucky Luke to his own, says he hates puns and deletes
them from Goscinny's scripts, but that Goscinny only puts
them in to tease him. Morris says that Hergé's Tintin in
the Land of the Soviets was important to him in choosing
comics as his career. He speaks briefly of censorship,
merchandising, animation, stage adaptation, and film
adaptation of Lucky Luke. La Diligence, he says, is a
parody of the film Stagecoach. Morris describes his way of
depicting motion, and a gangster strip called Fred le
Savant, that he did briefly with Goscinny. Includes two
photographs of Morris, and a sample page of Fred le Savant.
