the only enemy who knows Batman's identity, has been
resurrected and returns to Gotham. How far will the Caped
Crusader go to insure the safety of his city-- and his

Summary: In the early 21st century, William Mandella is drafted and trained for battle. His unit has been assembled under the "Elite Conscription Act," and is preparing to go to battle against an enemy dubbed the Taurans, because they were first encountered in the constellation Taurus. The Taurans have never been contacted or seen, but they have been destroying human spaceships for unknown reasons. On a planet called Aleph, Mandella's group becomes the first humans to actually see and kill Taurans up close, although they are unable to secure a prisoner.
