"La Mine d'Or de Dick Digger" p. 7-30 (plates 1-25). --
Summary: Lucky Luke rides toward Nugget City with
Dick Digger, the
prospector. Dick is in
a celebratory mood because he has struck gold, and he's on
his way to register his claim and tell his wife and son.
Though Dick is cautious enough to have hidden the
map to his
gold mine in a rum
bottle, he can't help drawing attention to himself by
spending gold nuggets and shouting about it in a saloon.
That night he is robbed of his nuggets and his rum, and
gets
amnesia from a bump
on the head. One of the robbers is apparently a Mexican,
named Mestizo, and the other is called Big Belly. Lucky
Luke goes looking for the robbers, and after several days
he finds them just as they discover the map in the bottle.
Lucky Luke gets it away from them, and then lets them steal
back an altered version. At this point Lucky Luke
disappears, falling over a
waterfall. Jolly
Jumper, his faithful and unusually clever horse, thinks his
master is dead and is about to commit suicide when an
Indian fisherman pulls Luke out of his net. Lucky Luke
returns the genuine map to the Digger family, while the
false map leads the robbers to a perch on a
cliff ledge where
they're easily captured. When Dick Digger sees Big Belly
his memory returns, and the family rides into the sunset in
its covered wagon to exploit the mine.
"Mad Jim"* p. 31-52 (plates 29-50) -- Summary: Lucky
Luke rides into Silverbrook and steps into the Horseshoe
Saloon. Although he has never been to the town before,
everyone thinks they recognize him and they flee in terror.
It seems Lucky Luke has an evil twin named Mad Jim, a local
bad guy who is scheduled to be hung at dawn. Two other bad
guys see an advantage to be had in the situation. For a
share of the hidden loot from Mad Jim's last bank job, they
sneak an unconscious Lucky Luke into the jail in Mad Jim's
place. Jolly Jumper knows the difference when Mad Jim
starts trying to
impersonate Lucky
Luke, and the horse almost gets his real master out of jail
in time, but not quite. At the hanging things go wrong and
a free-for-all begins, during which Lucky Luke is able to
sneak away. Lucky Luke tracks Mad Jim to his hideout and
captures the three outlaws. On the trail back towards
Silverbrook with his three prisoners, he is stopped by a
band of Indians who are very displeased when he tries to
make peace by giving them his harmonica. Mad Jim is able to
slip the Indians a bottle of firewater, and soon the
outlaws are free, Lucky Luke is tied to a cactus, and the
Indians are fighting among themselves. Lucky Luke rides
away on Jolly Jumper, still attached to the cactus. That
night Lucky Luke catches the outlaws again and herds them
into town, where the sheriff locks up both lookalikes
because he can't be sure. Jolly Jumper is brought in to
make the identification.

Miner, Janet.
Tales of the Mighty Code Talkers. Volume 1 / edited and
design by Arigon Starr ; illustration by Kristina Bad Hand
; associate editors, Janet Miner, Lee Francis IV ; cover
artwork, Roy Boney, Jr. -- Albuquerque, NM : Native
Realities LLC, 2016. -- 1 v. : col. ill. ; 26 cm. --
Includes bibliographical references. -- "Approved by the
Indigenous Comics Code Authority." -- Summary (from OCLC):
"There has been a great deal of writing the past several
decades about Native American Code Talkers of World War
Two. The published works have been about Navajos and the
tremendous contribution they made in the Pacific campaigns
of the war. What is often overlooked is the role played in
both World Wars by men of other tribes. There were
Cherokee, Choctaw, Comanche, Creek and other tribal
representatives with their languages involved as well.
Tales of the Mighty Code Talkers, a graphic anthology of
historically based stories, begins to fill that void. Seven
stories, two by the book's editor, Arigon Starr, dealing
with Choctaw and Comanche code talkers, one by Roy Boney,
Jr. on Cherokees, one by Johnnie Diacon on Creeks, and one
by Jonathan Nelson on Navajos, plus stories from Lee
Francis IV and Michael Sheyahshe, provide an excellent
rendering of the subject." -- Historical genre. -- Call

"Beach-Head" / Russ Heath. 6 p. in Man Comics, no. 13 (Apr.

to claim the bloody sand in front of you for the United
States. It doesn't matter that the sarge is dead and that
your best pal just stepped on a mine, you gotta keep
pushing and take the beach from those dirty Krauts. The
Germans aren't giving up without a fight though. They're
slinging hot lead hard and fast and it's only by the good
grace of Lady Luck that you're still firing back. Bombs
fall, bullets fly, and the closer you get to the tree line
the worse it seems to get, but the mission doesn't change:
Establish a beachhead. Do you have the guts to keep going?

Tintin, ann. 36, no. 321 (Oct. 30, 1981). -- Summary: The
Emperor Ming of China is coming to visit the island of King
Morodor. China wants a defense treaty and considers the
island vulnerable as it is located between Japan and Korea.
While the Emperor is visiting, Nahomi, a little girl of
Morodor's court, is kidnapped by the Panda King. The Panda
King rules a legendary talking animal population on the
island. Nahomi helps them with a problem and is returned
