Summary: In a saloon in Socorro, New Mexico, Red Wooley finds Jimmy McClure and gives him the news that Mike Blueberry is still alive, though soon to be hung. Jimmy had thought that Mike died in the train crash that disfigured Angel Face. Red has a clipping that says a singer named Lily Calloway is appearing in Tucson, and recognizes her in the picture as their old associate, Chihuahua Pearl. Lily is now engaged to a rich and jealous man, who doesn't know about "Pearl." Red assumes that either a soft spot in her heart for Mike, or his and Jimmy's knowledge of her past, will convince her to help in his plan to spring Blueberry out of jail. Blueberry says goodbye to the Indian woman Chini, now healed from the gunshot wound she received defending him from Shrieber the man hunter. Blueberry recommends that she go back to Victorio, and make a real chief out of him. The army starts transporting Blueberry down the trail to Tucson for his execution. Jimmy and Red meet them in an inn on the way, and Lily Calloway shows up to do a little impromptu entertainment. Soon the soldiers are half drunk and bedazzled, and Blueberry is on his way with a fast horse and a loaded gun. Chini, Victorio and the Apache warriors had been following the soldiers, and steal their horses, making the getaway complete. Victorio has matured quite a bit, and he and Blueberry are friends again. They use an elaborate strategy to steal a train to take them toward to where Cochise and the Apache women and children are being held. As they drop Chihuahua Pearl in the desert with her fiancé, Blueberry tells her to try and be happy, and she tells him to go to hell.
