Light & Bold

Light & Bold / Carlos Trillo, [and] Jordi Bernet ; translated from the Spanish original by David Rosenthal. -- New York : Catalan Communications, 1990. -- 70 p. : ill. ; 28 cm. -- "Adults only". -- Light is the name of a superlatively beautiful woman, and Bold is a grotesque contract killer. Call no.: PN6790.A73T7L513 1990

"First Contact" 14 p. -- Summary: Light is shown having dental work without anesthesia, then being whipped for ten minutes, and not feeling anything. She's in training to become even less sensitive and be some kind of agent. Bold is shown, meanwhile, crying in his room, lonely and desolate. They are called together by a Mr. Smith. Bold is supposed to beat her up as the final exam of her training. He starts beating, and she doesn't care, but suddenly they discover feelings for each other.

"Second Contact (Interruptus)" 16 p. -- Summary: Bold is called to kill another agent in Mr. Smith's organization, named Jill Miller. Jill was about to sell information to Stuart Lester of the C.I.A. Her death makes difficulty for both organizations, and Light is called to take on Jill's duties. Bold and Light yearn for each other, and Bold has just gotten to her apartment when the call comes.

"Lost Contact" 16 p. -- Summary: Light is assigned to meet Stuart Lester at Sir Archibald's place, while Lester learns from his contact that Jill worked for Sir Archibald, a former double agent. Lester and Light meet, and Light tricks him into inviting her to his hotel later. At the hotel she drops a hint about something that's going to happen at 7 pm. Meanwhile Sir Archibald is on a roof waiting until 7 pm when a Middle Eastern pacifist leader is expected to pass. Once the pacifist is killed, Light's hint implicates her in Stuart's mind. Mr. Smith plans for her to be tortured to death by the C.I.A. leaving a confession that will be good for Mr. Smith's arms business. Bold learns about the plan for Light's death, and is incensed.

"Plenty of Contact" 16 p. -- Summary: The U.S. Army captures Light and begins the torture. She tells them Sir Archibald has left for Jamaica, and that there's a Russian agent in on it. The army catches Archibald, and the Russian kills himself rather than surrender. Sir Archibald confesses to being a Soviet agent, and both he and Light are about to be disposed of when Bold dismantles Smith's organization and tells Lester the truth in exchange for Light's safety. The happy couple leaves for Ireland to begin a life of love and goat's milk.
