back to the sweaty streets of Durban in over a decade, and
found them still greased in blood and dirty conscience.
He'd been a soldier, a smuggler, a poacher, a criminal, a
killer all his life. Now, on the trail of his sister's
murderer, he will go to any extreme necessary. But Barker
is running out of time, and for a defective cyborg whose
very memories have become treachery, he can no longer be

"Jack Kirby, Fritz Lang, and Balance" / Thomas A. Durwood.
p. 1-3 in The Harvard Journal of Pictorial Fiction (Spring
1974) -- SUMMARY: "The great German film director Fritz
Lang shows a love for balanced composition, on both the
thematic and visual levels, in his masterpiece Metropolis.
Almost identical motifs recur in the work of comics great
Jack Kirby, some thirty years later. The author begins with
a breakdown of Metropolis, moving from there to examples
from Kirby's work. Machines are discussed as a common
obsession. The analysis concludes with a suggestion of the
relationship between these two artists in the context of
pictorial narrative fiction."

Swan, penciller ; Dave Hunt, inker ; Agustin Mas, letterer
; Gene D'Angelo, colorist ; Julius Schwartz, editor. 24 p.
in Superman, no. 418 (Apr. 1986). -- SUMMARY: Aliens
Superman once met as Superboy ask for help in dealing with
a threat to their civilization. He agrees and one alien
stays to take over Superman's job. The news media name him
"Superman-X." Guns turn to dust, kryptonite turns to
sandstone, and people begin to think the replacement has
surpassed Superman. Superman-X cures hopeless diseases,
etc., but doesn't balance his deeds with self-restraint.
Lois and Jimmy show Superman-X a news story in which a
child with polio and leg braces is killed in the chaos of
people trying to get to the "savior" at the hospital gates.
Superman-X believes it and leaves in a wail of anguish, but
the tape was a fake, nobody has died, although the chaos
was real. The real Superman returns soon after (summary by
