The Caliph's Vacation

The Caliph's Vacation / story by Goscinny ; art by Tabary ; translated by Beatrice Soss. -- New York : Dargaud International, 1982. -- 46 p. : col. ill. ; 29 cm. -- (The Adventures of Caliph Haroun al Sa'afti) -- Original title: Les Vacances du Calife. -- The title character in the original French is Iznogoud. -- Call no.: PN6747.T23 I90313 1982

"Summer Vacation, or, Never Say Die" p. 7-16 -- Summary: Iznogoud takes the Caliph to the beach, hoping for "drowning, sunstroke, heatstroke, sharks, tidal waves" or anything, really, that will kill off his boss.

"Good Sports in the Caliphate" p. 17-26 -- Summary: Iznogoud has the magician meterologist conjure up snow enough for a winter resort in the desert, hoping the Caliph will get buried in the snow, or at least get killed in a skiing accident.

"The Caliph's Cruise" p. 27-36 -- Summary: Iznogoud signs the Caliph up for a cruise with a jinxed sea captain, whose 27 previous cruises have ended in disaster. They are cast away on islands with cannibals, a cyclops, a giant bird of prey, and natives who practice human sacrifice, but the Caliph is not killed.

"Lihkwid's Bottle, or, The Bottle of Lihkwid" p. 37-46 -- Summary: Iznogoud buys a bottle of elixer from a peddler, which will turn the person who drinks the very last drop into a louse. It's a large bottle, and he has to use several excuses to get the Caliph to drink the bad-tasting stuff. In the end Iznogoud drinks the last of it himself.
