Brentano. -- New York : Bulfinch Press, 2005. -- 131 p. :
ill. (some col.) ; 35 cm. -- Includes bibliographical
references and index. -- Summary (from publisher
description): "Joseph Pulitzer's New York World flourished
at the turn of the twentieth century, and out of it grew
what we think of as the modern daily paper. The World was
famous for muckraking and sensationalism, but to a
contemporary eye what is most striking about the paper (and
in particular its Sunday edition) is that it was filled
with colorful art--caricatures, full-page cartoons,
disaster drawings, fiction illustrations, hand-lettered
typography, weird science, halftone photographs, maps, and
more. Co-authors Baker and Brentano have selected 85 of the
finest examples of period reporting, bold and playful
graphic design, long-lost comic strips, and society pieces
from the heyday of the New York World for reproduction in
this delightful, oversized volume. Baker's introductory
essay argues the significance and beauty of Pulitzer's
paper, and Brentano's detailed captions and notes accompany
the colorful reproductions throughout." -- Call no.: folio

Summary: Conrad and Paul have been together
for 10 years. Lately both have become obsessed with other men.
Conrad has a crush on one of his piano students, named Matthew.
Paul has practically been stalking a straight Spanish
construction worker named Ramón. While doing some emergency
babysitting, Conrad has to explain about penises to a
5-year-old boy. The boy's father hears about it and comes over
to beat Conrad; meanwhile Matthew's mother is also visiting
Conrad to share her fears about Matthew's possible
homosexuality. Conrad ends up in the hospital. Also meanwhile,
Ramón calls with a proposal: he'll try sex with Paul if Paul
will try sex with a woman. Paul agrees, hoping to back out of
the woman part, and Ramón tries to enforce the bargain. Matthew
leaves for a Catholic boarding school, Ramón leaves for
Andalusia, and Conrad and Paul's relationship is renewed.
