The Three EarsThe Three Ears / Alejandro Jodorowsky - Georges Bess ; translation by Justin Kelly. -- Hollywood, CA : Humanoids Publishing, 2000. -- (The White Lama ; 3) -- Translation of: Les Trois Oreilles. -- 48 p. : col. ill. ; 32 cm. -- Call no.: PN6747.B45L313 2000"Trial and Miracles" p. 3-12 -- Summary: Gabriel Marpa arrives at the monastery and is made to sit motionless in the courtyard for three hot days and three freezing nights. Snails come to cover and cool him in the day, and a blanket blows his way in the night. Little Jesus is shown eating pork, though the eating of animals is supposed to be forbidden. "The Lord of Cats" p. 13-23 -- Summary: Gabriel begins his life as a novice monk by vanquishing the reigning bully, Topden. The next night, after a horde of cats has been brought in to watch the temple, the Topden wants to be friends and shows Gabriel how to get past the cats by giving them mice. Gabriel refuses to sacrifice the mice, but rather makes friends with the top cat, named Lin-Fa. "The Lord of Donkeys" p. 24-37 -- Summary: The feeble-minded Little Jesus, with the power of Lama Migmar behind him, rules the monastery with his whims. He has decided that a donkey should lead them in prayer, for example. Topden shows Gabriel this humiliation, and also the quarters of the "disciplinary monks," where acts of drunken cruelty are proceeding. He sees that senior lamas who object are being entombed alive. In the library, Chinese workers are excavating, searching for a fabled treasure. Topden and Gabriel are discovered as they watch the excavation. Topden is caught, but Tzu rescues Gabriel. "Wisdom or Wealth" p. 38-48 -- Summary: Dondup and Tzu undertake to train Gabriel, while the whole monastery is being ransacked by Migmar in a search for the boy. His teachers cut below Gabriel's tongue so he can reach back, activate his pineal gland, and use his 'third ear.' He is able to see the auras and communicate mentally with Dondup, Tzu, and the cat Lin-Fa, though Dondup tells him the perception will not be so clear with other less pure beings.
