returning to their planet after a 4,000-year jaunt. The
industrial colony from Earth, which has been established for
200 years, is a surprise to them. Valerian makes an appointment
with the Terran governor to talk about the Alflolians, since
according to the galactic code the planet must be returned to
them. The governor tries to stall, but the Alflolians are
fun-loving and powerful. They soon disrupt the colony and leave
for the wilds of the planet. With orders to track down the
natives, Valerian and Laureline lead an armed force which soon
breaks down and turns back leaving the two of them to proceed
alone. Laureline is snatched by a large beast called a Shalafut
Personality-Splitter, but the friendly natives save her. Soon a
hundred ships show up, the rest of the nomadic natives, and the
governor and council decide to repatriate them on a
reservation. The Terrans make the natives work in colonial
industry, which is soon sabotaged whimsically and
completely. Just as the Terrans are about to give up, the
Alflolians decide that their planet isn't that much fun
anymore, and leave.
