"The Death of Black Diamond" (Black Diamond) / by William
Overgard. 12 p. in Black Diamond Western, no. 21 (Oct.
1950). -- Summary (by Amy Lazet): In the town of Thunder
Basin, justice was in short supply until the day
quick-drawing Silk Hat rode into town and imposed his own
brand of justice. As self-appointed sheriff, judge and
mayor, Silk Hat now rules the town with a bloody and
merciless fist. Meanwhile Bumper, a friend of Bob (also
known as U.S. Marshal Black Diamond), is carrying a tidy
sum of cash when he is waylaid and robbed in Thunder Basin
by none other than Silk Hat. Because Bumper resists, he is
sentenced to be hanged in a week's time. Suspecting
something is amiss, Bob adopts the guise of Black Diamond
and rides to Thunder Basin, where he demands an audience
with Silk Hat. Through treachery, Silk Hat manages to
inflict a flesh wound that renders Black Diamond
unconscious. Will Black Diamond perish at the hand of Silk
Hat, who leers down at him, gun in hand? The story is
