Marvano. The Forever War 3: Major Mandella (2203-3177) / Joe Haldeman ; Marvano. -- New York : Nantier Beall Minoustchine, 1991. -- color ; 44 p.

Summary: It is the year 2471, and the space ship Masaryk is leaving for the Greater Magellanic Cloud to fight Taurans. Charlie Moore, Mandella's second in command, goes over the Major's file. Not only is Major Mandella 482 years old and one of only eleven people who have survived the entire war so far, he is the only heterosexual on the ship, except for Charlie himself who is at this point an asexual cyborg. The soldiers are all test-tube babies, drafted for 10 years with little chance for survival. The trip will take 4 subjective months, or 350 years on the real calendar. In the stasis field, modern weapons won't work so they carry swords. The ship's doctor, Diana Alsever, turns out to be a latent heterosexual. A planetary base is established, and routine and boredom set in. A private tries to kill an ex-lover, then the Major, and the Major refuses to execute him. For the sake of discipline, Diana kills him medically. The Taurans attack the base. The Masaryk is lost in defensive action, and Tauran troops land. A platoon in reserve in a stasis field manages to push a bomb outside and kill all the Taurans. The platoon returns to Stargate in a lifeboat, 350 years later. The year is now 3177, the war is over, and Earth is populated by clones. There are planets for veterans: Paradise for homosexuals, and Middle Finger for heterosexuals. Mandella opts for the latter, as do a medically restored Charlie, and Diana. The war ended because the transition of the human race to clones made it possible to communicate with the Taurans, who are also clones. Mandella gets a letter from Marygay Potter, who's been waiting in a "relativistic shuttle" that goes back and forth so that she aged only a month every ten years. They get married and have a baby on Middle Finger.
