Summary (form OCLC): The late Will Eisner, the great
American master of comics, regarded this, his last work, as
his most powerful. This nonfiction book in graphic-novel
style examines the outrageous fabrication of The Protocols
of the Elders of Zion, which purports to be the blueprint
by Jewish leaders to take over the world. Hatched as an
anti-Semitic plot by the tsar's secret police to deflect
widespread criticism of the Russian government, the
forgery, first published in 1905, succeeded beyond the
propagandistic ambitions of its originators; the lie became
an internationally accepted truth. Presenting a pageant of
historical figures including Tsar Nicholas II, Henry Ford,
and Adolf Hitler, Eisner exposes the twisted history of the
Protocols from nineteenth-century Russia to modern-day Klan
members to Islamic fundamentalists. The Plot unravels one
of the most devastating hoaxes of the twentieth century. --

An Island Called Hoboken

An Island Called Hoboken / Willy Vandersteen ; translated by Nicholas J. Lahey and edited by Ronald Parlante. -- San Francisco, Calif. : Hiddigeigei Books, 1976. -- 1 v. : col. ill. ; 26 cm. -- (Willy and Wanda ; 1) -- Originally published in Flemish. -- Adventure story genre. -- Call no.: PN6790.N44W5I8 1976

Summary: At the beach with Aunt Sidonia, Wanda finds an old vase, and meets Professor Barabas. Barabas uses a time machine to discover that there is a letter in the vase from the year 1551. A Captain William Lager has been shipwrecked in the South Seas, and has set up camp on an island he calls Hoboken. Using a kind of helicopter, Sidonia, Barabas and Wanda fly to the South Seas to look for Hoboken. They find a city with medieval walls, and Wanda falls out of the plane outside the walls, while the plane crash-lands in a tree within the walls. Sidonia and Barabas are imprisoned by Chive Gormando, ruler of a people called the Heavies. Outside, Wanda meets a boy called Willy of the Thins, a descendant of Captain Lager. The Thins are people who live outside the city, and the Heavies control the city. Willy and Wanda tunnel into the city for a rescue, and find the ghost of Captain William Lager. He explains that the Heavies are monopolizing the food supply, and something needs to be done. Except for the Professor, they all escape the city and begin plannning a revolution with the rest of the Thins. Wanda and Willy sneak back into the city, and soon a battle of rival cannons breaks out inside the city. Aunt Sidonia has raised an army, which charges from the outside. Wanda is soon named Queen of Hoboken, while Clive Gormando escapes, leaving spies to disrupt the city. It turns out the Heavies destroyed the food supply before they left, so nobody has anything to eat. Professor Barabas goes out in his plane to get food, and comes back with three tons of breath mints. The Heavies raise an armada and try to invade Hoboken. They are repulsed, but Willy is lost in the battle. Life goes on, and fisheries and agriculture are re-established. The peaceful life means the ghost of Captain Lager can finally rest, and he disappears. Willy is found on a small island and decides to return to the Low Countries with Wanda, Professor Barabas, and Aunt Sidonia.

Island of the Unicorn / Jean "Moebius" Giraud and Marc Bati, co-creators ; Randy & Jean-Marc Lofficier, translators ; Bernd Metz, Jean-Jacques Surbeck, editors ; Marc Bati, colors ; with special thanks to Anthea Shackleton and Starwatcher Graphics. -- New York : Catalan Communications, 1990. -- 48 p. : col. ill. ; 28 cm. -- (The Magic Crystal ; 2) -- (Comcat Comics) -- Translation of: Le Cristal Majeur 2: Sur l'île de la Licorne. -- Fantasy genre. -- Call no.: PN6747.G5I8 1990

Summary: After the fall of the Sword of Orion, Lorcan, Altor and Aurelys flee and are given refuge by an underground race called the Burrowers. They are taken before the Great Burrower, who in turn takes them to their city's magic crystal, which has been dimming. Aurelys suddenly knows what to do, and uses her own power to reenergize the crystal and defeat an invading military from the Middle Kingdom. She then teleports herself, Altor, and a Burrower named Kran to safety on the Island of the Unicorn. Lorcan is captured by the enemy and stays behind. Galactic civilization starts to notice something is wrong. While the Dark Star questions Lorcan, the Unicorn helps Aurelys understand what her next moves must be. Each city on the planet has a magic crystal, and they are linked as a planetary defense against evil. The world mind of New Terra, Ursana, shows up in the galactic civilization's meeting place to warn against interference, and to say that Lorcan is being kept prisoner because he has interfered. The Dark Star begins a military attack on the surrounding kingdoms to steal their crystals. Aurelys, launching from the Unicorn's crystal, begins a project of teleporting from one crystal to the other, renergizing them to prevent their theft. The goal is to work her way to the Great Crystal, which governs the others and has been stolen by the Dark Star.
