The Iron FlowerpottersThe Iron Flowerpotters / by Willy Vandersteen ; translated by Nicholas J. Lahey and edited by Leslie A. Dock. -- San Francisco, Calif. : Hiddigeigei Books, 1977. -- 55 p. : col. ill. ; 26 cm. -- (Willy and Wanda ; 11) -- Originally published in Flemish. -- According the back cover of the first album in this series, it appears that this translation was originally going to be titled The Flowerpot of Steel. -- Adventure story genre. -- Call no.: PN6790.N44W5I7 1977Summary: One morning while digging worms for a fishing trip, Lambik, Willy and Wanda find a strange iron flowerpot in Lambik's garden, and someone grabs it and runs away with it. Later while Lambik is fishing in the canal, some men in a barge kidnap Willy and Wanda. The men are wearing iron flowerpots on their heads. Lambik manages to sneak onto the barge after asking a lockmaster to call Sidonia. The barge goes to sea and meets a galleon commanded by the Major Domo of Hoboken. He demands that Willy, as heir to the throne of Hoboken, return and be a puppet king in the service of the Flowerpotters. If he doesn't agree, Wanda and Lambik (who has now also been captured) will die. Willy agrees, but the Flowerpotters try to kill his friends anyway, leaving them behind with a time bomb. Sidonia saves them in their aircraft, the Spirit of Ghent. Flying directly to Hoboken in the South Seas, the friends soon see that the galleon with Willy on board has already arrived, and cannoneers open fire on the helicopter. Lambik bats the cannonballs away with a shovel, and Willy is rescued. Sidonia lands the Spirit of Ghent on the coast of Hoboken, and Willy and Wanda sneak into the city to reconnoiter. They find that the Flowerpotters have planned a coup for the next day. In the process Willy gets kidnapped again. Meanwhile Wanda, Lambik and Sidonia learn that what the Flowerpotters are objecting to is a plan to use the country's excess wealth to build a replica of the Antwerp Cathedral. The Flowerpotters want to build a golden Tower of Babble, since they are all ex-politicians. Wanda and Lambik rescue Willy again, a coronation is held, and work begins on the cathedral. Lambik acts as foreman for the project, and a saboteur soon knocks him out. Alchemist Frowst gives Lambik an experimental potion which makes his neck stretch like Plastic Man. Flowerpotters are among them doing mischief, unrecognizeable without their pots. Other Flowerpotters begin an armed invasion, which is unsuccessful. The plot begins to revolve around the secret of a building called the "Tower of the Third Man." Inside the tower is a sleeping man who seems to be a double of the Major Domo of the Flowerpotters. The building of the cathedral proceeds with the mystery still unsolved. The apparent "third man" wears a black hood and warns of an impending Flowerpotter attempt to destroy the cathedral. The Third Man is finally revealed as the older brother of a pair of twins, and the twins are a friendly councilman and the head of the Flowerpotters respectively. Frowst injects the evil twin with an improving potion, the Flowerpotters surrender, and the cathedral is completed. This summary is from European Comics in English

The Union Pacific is moving westward from Nebraska, and the Central Pacific is moving eastward from California. The more miles a company lays before the tracks meet, the more it will own, and the government cash incentives are also high. The plains Indians are uneasy about the slaughter of the buffalo, and it wouldn't take much to start a war. General Dodge, working for the Union Pacific, sends for Michael S. Blueberry to help negotiate with the Indians, and to control the buffalo hunters. Blueberry arrives in the thick of it with his friends Red Wooley and Jimmy McClure. Indian villages are being attacked, and buffalo stampeded, by a hunter named Jethro "Steelfingers" Drake, who is secretly in the pay of the Central Pacific company. Blueberry calms the hunters and has Steelfingers arrested, and goes to meet with the Indians. The Central Pacific has another spy in the camp, who gets Steelfingers free in time to sabotage the peace meeting and get several of the Indians killed. The Indians attack the work crews and burn a railroad bridge, and Blueberry knows it's just the beginning of trouble. This summary is from European Comics in English
