Nicolas / Pascal Girard ; translated by Helge Dascher. --
   Montréal : Drawn & Quarterly, 2008. -- 69 p. : ill. ; 19
cm. -- Translation of Nicolas. -- "Petits livres". --
Summary (from publisher's website): "Nicolas is a moving
debut work by Quebecois cartoonist Pascal Girard. The book
is presented as a series of short autobiographical
vignettes that take place after the childhood death of his
younger brother, Nicolas, who passed away in 1990. Each
episode taken from Girard's childhood, adolescence, and
young adulthood offers a glimpse into his multifaceted and
ongoing process of reckoning, as he struggles to reconcile
the magnitude of this tragedy with the minutiae of his
daily experience of loss. Deftly sidestepping the cloying
sentimentality and abject self-pity that might seem endemic
to such a personal project, Girard treats his subject with
a spare line and a refreshingly matter-of-fact tone that
prove to be all the more moving in their honest simplicity.
Ultimately, Nicolas unfolds as a delicate portrait of the
many faces of mourning, identified with surprising humor
and pathos by an artist who knows them intimately." --

The Dashing White Cowboy / Goscinny ; drawings by Morris ; translated by Frederick W. Nolan and Simone Kunzig. -- London : Glo'worm, 2000. -- 46 p. : col. ill. ; 29 cm. -- (A Lucky Luke Adventure) -- Translation of: Le Cavalier Blanc. -- Call no.: PN6747.M64L84313 2000

Summary: A traveling theater group, the "Whittaker Baltimore Company," is touring with its latest play, called "The Dashing White Cowboy." They attract Lucky Luke's attention because at a certain point in the melodrama a real robbery always happens somewhere near the theater. Since the actors are seemingly on stage when it happens, Lucky Luke starts following them from town to town to try and figure it out. Lucky Luke thus himself becomes the main suspect in the eyes of the law. Audience reaction to the play is traditional for the West, especially loud cheering and booing, which enables the actors to sneak in robberies without being heard. At one point, as an aside, the audience is shown betting on a swordfight in Romeo and Juliet. The gamblers decide the fight was fixed, and both Romeo and Tybalt get tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. Lucky Luke solves the case, and soon the troupe, minus their leading lady, is performing in prison with the Dalton brothers in the audience. The difference there is that the audience boos the hero and cheers the villain.
