"Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar : Scholar and Social Reformer of
Bengal" / script, Debashis Mukhergi ; illustrations, Souren
Roy ; cover, V.B. Khalap ; editor, Anant Pai. 31 p. in Amar
Chitra Katha, no. 632 (1976, 2004 printing). --
(Visionaries) -- Cover and running title: "Vidyasagar." --
Biography of Isvaracandra Bidyasagara (1820-1891). -- "Such
was his mastery over Sanskrit that the Sanskrit College of
Kolkata conferred the title 'Vidyasagar' on its young
student. Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar (1820-1891) went on to
become the principal of the same college. As inspector of
schools, he established several schools in Bengal,
particularly for girls. He simplified Bengali to make it
easy for the common man. He is thus regarded as the father
of modern Bengali prose. A gentle crusader, he championed
the cause of women. Through his efforts, widow remarriage
was legalised, and restrictions were placed on child
marriages and bigamy, that were then widely prevalent." --

Summary: Biggles, Algy and Ginger are called
by Fairway Aviation to test a top-secret aircraft, a
long-distance monoplane. Before trying for a long-distance
record, they take the airplane up for a quick trial and
discover another plane is following and observing them. That
night the Fairway is stolen. Clues lead north toward Scotland, and an autogiro
(helicopter) is put
at Biggles' disposal for the search. A trawler captain is
supposed to help them but it turns out he's a prisoner on his
own ship. Biggles and Ginger free the captain and get the
information that leads them to a cottage and a ruined castle on
the coast of Scotland. Below the castle is a secret grotto with
facilties for docking, and underwater not far away is a sunken
U-Boat with a shipment of
gold bars. Erich von Stahlhein, a former German spy, has stolen
the Fairway to transport the gold to South America. Biggles and
company interfere with his plans, and Biggles substitutes
dynamite for the gold in the one case Von Stalhein has so far
retrieved. Von Stahlhein discovers the switch just before it
explodes, and manages to steal the autogiro and escape. The
Fairway is returned safely to the manufacturer.

Summary: Summer 1945, and Scotland Yard is setting up
an Air Police unit. Thieves with a very fast airplane have
stolen pearls from the Persian Gulf and diamonds from South
Africa, and sold them far away before the thefts were
discovered. Biggles, Ginger, Algy and Bertie are recruited to
solve the case. The search begins at Augsburg, Germany, where
two experimental planes, that have since disappeared, were
being built during the war. Clues in Augsburg lead them to
suspect a gang working out of Libya, and during a reconnassance
they sight one of the missing planes. Figuring that the next
target is a plane from Alexandria to London, they follow but
are too late to prevent the theft of the crown jewels of the
Maharajah of Mysalore. Checking out a suspected base at the
oasis of El Zufra, they find it defended by a minefield.
Biggles is taken prisoner. The rest of the unit rescues Biggles
while the gang is out, and Bertie flies to a British base to
get help. The gang has gone to Abyssinia, so they disguise two
old planes with Abyssinian markings and begin a search. They
find a supposedly abandoned Italian emergency airstrip and
flush the gang from there, destroying one of the planes in the
process. The other plane is shot down after a long chase, and a
substantial portion of the loot is recovered.

Karma Girl / Jennifer Estep. -- New York : Berkley Books,

happened to Carmen Cole. Bigtime, New York, is not big
enough for both Carmen Cole and the superheroes and
ubervillains who stalk its streets. An intrepid reporter,
Carmen's dedicated her life to unmasking the
spandex-wearers, all because her fiancé turned out to be a
superhero, and a cheating one at that, sleeping with none
other than his nubile nemesis. Exposing the true identities
of the nation's caped crusaders and their archenemies has
catapulted Carmen from her sleepy southern hometown to the
front pages of the country's biggest newspaper, The Exposé.
Hobnobbing with modelizing millionaires and famished
fashionistas is all in a day's work for a woman on the
trail of the Fearless Five and the Terrible Triad. But when
Carmen gets the scoop of her career, her life comes
crashing down around her. And even Bigtime's sexist
superhero, Striker, may not be able to save her." --
