The American Way : Those Above and Those Below / John
Ridley, writer ; Georges Jeanty, penciller. -- Berkeley, CA
: DC Comics, 2017-2018. -- col. ill. ; 26 cm. -- (Vertigo)
-- Complete in 6 nos. -- Summary (from OCLC): In 1962 Jason
Fisher was given astonishing powers by the United States
government-powers he used to defend the nation as the New
American. He and his teammates in the Civil Defense Corps
were real-life superheroes. Except that it was all a fraud.
A conspiracy. And now, 10 years after the CDC was torn
apart by racism, infighting and murder, the Corps'
surviving members find themselves pulled in very different
directions. Missy Devereaux-a.k.a. Ole Miss-is
transitioning from the First Lady of Mississippi into a
candidate for governor and defender of a vanishing and
hateful way of life. Amber Eaton-formerly known as Amber
Waves-has become a domestic terrorist, using her powers to
infiltrate and destroy the country's centers of power.
Somewhere in the middle stands Jason Fisher, who has
remained a crime-fighter even as evidence mounts that he is
accomplishing nothing besides propping up a system that's
rigged against him as a black man in America. In a nation
being torn apart, what does it mean to fight for the
American way? Writer John Ridley and artist Georges Jeanty
revisit their parallel Earth for a look at its gritty

Paul Chadwick's The World Below / story and pencil art,

Horse Books, 2007. -- 190 p. : ill. ; 23 cm. -- Summary
(from SkyRiver): Fifteen years ago, from a hole in the
ground in rural Washington, a tiny flying machine emerged
and Charles Hoy found it. From all appearances, this small
vehicle wasn't built with any existing human technology and
Hoy made a fortune selling that technology to the first
eager customer. Now with his fortunes dwindling and his
curiosity piqued with more than a decade of questioning,
Hoy has hired a team of adventurers to enter this vast,
underground realm in hopes of bringing back even greater
discoveries. But while the team expects the unexpected and
is prepared for danger, nothing they can imagine will
prepare them for The World Below. -- Science fiction genre.

Fantasy Flight Publishing, 1996. -- 48 p. : col. ill. ; 29
cm.-- (Percevan) -- Translation of: Les Trois Étoiles
d'Ingaar. -- Fantasy. -- Summary: A storyteller tells how
the legendary Ingaar struck his sword on a stone and
produced three powerful gems. On his death they were
dispersed, but whoever finds them and puts them back in
Ingaar's crown will gain wealth and power. Baron Deadstone
consults the wizard Zenzarael, who confirms the truth of
the story and suggests that the Knight Percevan may have
one of the stones. Deadstone and his assistant Polemic
sneak into the bedroom where Percevan and Blanche Stonefire
are sleeping and steal Percevan's ring. Using his magic on
the gem, Zenzarael is able to determine who has the other
two stones. Percevan's friend Kervin figures out who took
Percevan's stone, and they head for Deadstone's castle.
Zenzarael casts a spell to delay Percevan, which involves
his falling into the hands of the dark, evil and seductive
Balkis and her assistant Shyloc'h. Kervin and Balkis'
blonde, good sister Ariel rescues them. Percevan learns
from Zenzarael that Deadstone will be heading north to the
Land of Ingvaar to get the crown to put his jewels in.
While he's talking to the wizard, the wizard's cat
Belphegor scratches Percevan, and that night in an inn
Percevan loses consciousness. Deadstone, though he doesn't
have the crown yet, figures he's through with the wizard,
and imprisons him. As revenge the wizard sends Balkis to
heal Percevan. To be continued. -- Call no.: PN6747.F3T713

wishes Superboy were still alive so he could 'have the

uncomfortable with his powerlessness with Lana thinking
that it has become an obsession. She recalls how she and
Pete Ross found the unconscious Superboy and got him home.
