Steve Beery Batman CollectionThe Batman collections at this library are referred to as the "Steve Beery Batman Collection" because they include Steve Beery's large bequest of Batman, Detective Comics, and other DC comics. Mr. Beery, author of the essay "Holy Hormones! Batman and Robin Made Me Gay!" in Gay Comix, no. 8 (Summer 1986) was a writer and gay rights activist as well as a comic book collector. Although he did not attend Michigan State University, he grew up nearby and later moved to San Francisco, where he died in July 1993. Friends of Steve Beery are invited to send reminiscences for a file in his memory to be kept in the Comic Art Collection, with parts of it to be shown here: |
