   bibliographical references (p. 21-22). -- "Paper presented
to the Comic Art & Comics Area, Popular Culture Association
Annual Conference, St. Louis, Mo., March 31-April 3, 2010."
-- "Abstract: Comics journalism emerged over the last 20
years as a genre of nonfiction comics encompassing a small
but influential body of work by so-called 'cartoon
journalists.' Central to the analysis of these comics is an
understanding of just what is, and is not, comics
journalism. This paper explores the usefulness of G. Stuart
Adam's definition of journalism as an art form, the
culmination of a creative process that draws upon news
   judgement, reporting, language, narrative and
interpretation. CulturePulp, a strip by Mike E. Russell,
was chosen as a case study for the applicability of Adam's
definition. A textual analysis of Russell's work
incorporating semiotic, genre and narrative theory shows
that Adam's definition provides a useful, but problematic,
way to identify, understand an analyze comics journalism."

(by Amy Lazet): As a technical advisor to a jungle-based
movie, Nyoka, the greatest jungle authority in the world,
is responsible for saving the life of the arrogant actor
Tyson Thespis. Blackguard that he is, Tyson resents being
saved by a woman and argues with the director of the film,
Miles, because he doesn't want his rescue to be included in
the film. Miles is murdered by Tyson, but Angles the
cameraman films the deed. Angles decides to blackmail
Tyson, who then tries to kill Angles. Nyoka rescues him
twice, but the third time Angles is killed. Nyoka gets her
hands on the film, forces Tyson to confess, and
triumphantly carts her prisoner back to civilization where
she will look for a better actor to finish the film. --

Nyxly, Ferlin.
"The Sleepwalker from Krypton" (Superman) / script, Craig
Boldman ; artwork, Curt Swan & Al Williamson ; letters,
Gaspar ; colors, Gene D'Angelo ; editor, Julius Schwartz.
   16 p. in Superman, no. 409 (July 1985). -- SUMMARY (by Mary
Walker): Ferlin Nyxly is determined to regain his powers
and get revenge on Superman. He is hoping to find something
at the site of a UFO landing, but loses his footing and is
injured. An alien heals him and explains that his ship is
normally invisible. Nyxly repays the alien by knocking him
out and taking his ship. The first encounter goes badly for
Superman, who leaves and shows up catatonic in the WGBS
Building. The alien arrives and begins treatment for a
brain short circuit. Nyxly raises havok and Jimmy gets an
idea from the alien's comment that Superman would be in a
suggestible state until he has healed. They give Superman a
remote earpiece and Jimmy directs Superman's assault,
followed by Lois, then by Edge. After the battle the alien
diagnoses the problem as Kryptonian Sleeping Sickness,
against which he was never vaccinated because he left
Krypton before it was scheduled. -- Call no.:

occurrences (being impaled by the sound effects of a
leather clad punkish Jimmy). Mr. Mxyzptlk is also soon
facing some weird effects (Lana Lang into S&M and treating
him like a dog with collar and leash and forcing him
   head-first into a dog-food dish). Mxyzpltk's cousin
Nzykmulk is behind it. The cousin confronts Mxyzpltk and
