Summary: Still following clues from a picture
taken from his attempted killers, XIII goes to an army base to
ask about a Captain Steve Rowland, deceased husband of Kim
Rowland, seen with XIII in the photograph. The army recognizes
XIII as Rowland himself, interrogates him, and has a Lieutenant
Jones take him back to his home town. His father is rich but
paralysed, with a beautiful young wife, who is scheming with
Rowland's uncle to get the estate. Rowland's appearance is a
shock to all of them. They tell him that his wife Kim has never
lived there. His stepmother sets him up to be arrested as the
murderer of his father and uncle. XIII escapes and finds the
landscape from the picture that shows Kim and himself, and
finds Kim. She tells him he's not really Steve Rowland, and
shows him her tattoo: "XVII." Kim disappears and the
authorities take him back to trial for the murders. He is found
guilty and sentenced to life in maximum security.
