The Time TrapThe Time Trap / Edgar P. Jacobs ; translated by Jean-Jacques Surbeck. -- New York : Catalan Communications, 1989. -- 64 p. : col. ill. ; 28 cm. -- (The Adventures of Blake & Mortimer ; 1) (Comcat Comics) -- Translation of: Le Piège Diabolique. -- Note: Blake & Mortimer are English scientists involved in science fiction adventure. The first English-language album, The Time Trap, is actually the eighth of the series, which explains a certain feeling of having arrived in the middle of something, and why one of the main characters, Blake, hardly appears at all. -- Science fiction genre. Call no.: PN6747.J27P513 1989Summary: Professor Philip Mortimer is given the use of a time machine ("Chronescape") by his old rival Miloch, who has apparently died. Against Blake's advice, Mortimer can't resist trying it out alone. Miloch has sabotaged the controls, and Mortimer is immediately plunged into prehistoric times and chased by dinosaurs. Escaping from this, his efforts to recalibrate land him in the 14th century, where he enacts a legend he has read in a guidebook, about a red-bearded man rescuing a princess from revolting peasants. His next try lands him in the post-catastrophic 51st century, where his coming has been foretold in prophecy. Mortimer's knowledge of nuclear engineering allows him to complete his role as a leader in a rebellion and escape in the Chronescape. He happens to arrive in modern France two weeks before he left, and sees Miloch's act of sabotage, which he corrects. One last trap left by Miloch causes the machine to self-destruct if it arrives back in its original time, and Blake, who has been searching for Mortimer, pulls him out of the wreck. The government hushes up the story, and most people don't believe it anyhow. This summary is from European Comics in English
Translation (Jefferson, NC : McFarland & Company, 2002).
