Superman, no. 408 (June 1985) -- Summary (by Mary Walker):
Cold war. Headline in the opening sequence "Nuke Talks
Collapse--Soviets Walk Out As Tensions Mount" The nukes
fall and seconds later the only one left standing is
Superman who can't believe what has happened, and then is
hit with major guilt ("I'm Superman! I should have done
something..."). It was a dream. He thinks about his dream
as he goes about handling other things noting how the dream
   isn't too far-fetched. "The two super-powers possess
nuclear arsenals big enough to blow up the world a few
thousand times over! Mankind has the technical know-how to
build these weapons--but do they have the maturity to be
trusted with them? They're almost child-like in their
comparison of weapons...each trying to outdo the other with
bigger, better 'toys'!" He knows he has the power to stop
the madness but should he? -- Call no.: PN6728.1.N3S8no.408

artists, Kurt Schaffenberger & Dave Hunt ; letterer, Milt
Snapinn ; colorist, Gene D'Angelo ; editor, Julius
   Schwartz. 8 p. in Superman, no. 409 (July 1985). -- SUMMARY
(by Mary Walker): Opens in Australia where Superman stops a
brush fire, saving a kangaroo, thinking that his work is
never done. Flying over the sea he appreciates the beauty,
then finds ocean creatures dying from a toxic spill from a
World War II freighter. He picks up the ship thinking that
though he vowed not to interfere in conflicts between
nations he can't leave this alone (note the conflict has
been over for 40 years!). 'With everything else that needs
to be done in the world, why should I have to protect Earth
from its own inhabitants?' He is conflicted about not
having enough time either as Superman or as Clark Kent.
He'd like to do small acts of kindness like blowing down
acorns for hungry squirrels. He thinks Lana should have
more time with him as Clark. Getting back in time to anchor
the news, an admiring technician gives him perspective, and
he feels better about his lives. -- Call no.:

Summary: A pirate named Ulritch the Red raids a sacred asteroid, and steals everything of value. Ulritch leaves behind two guanodonts (beasts of burden used by the pirates) and the priestess Panepha, thinking the three are dead. Panepha recovers to breed the guanodonts for their milk, and starts a successful cheese business. From rape by the pirates, she herself bears three children. A dark one, her favorite, is Almagro. A white one, Albino, is unloved and spends his spare time teaching himself about computer games. A red one, Onyx, is likewise rejected by her mother, and Albino and Onyx grow up at forced labor in the guanodont milking chamber. Albino begs for technopriest training school, Panepha finally sends him there, and he excels. Meanwhile Panepha, who has sworn revenge on Ulritch the Red, buys a spaceship and hires mercenaries to attack and destroy him. Onyx tries to stow away for the battle, and the chief mercenary locks her in his cabin. The battle is a sham, and it turns out Panepha has unwittingly hired Ulritch himself for the job. Onyx is his daughter, and she becomes princess of the pirates. Albino finds the legendary crypt of Saint Severo de Loyola, the founder of the Technoguild five centuries earlier, in cyberspace. The Saint tests him with a trap that he narrowly escapes, but he is sent to be punished for the extensive damage he did to computers on several star systems while trying to get out. Albino is the narrator of the story, and throughout has a little mouselike companion named Tinigrifi, who shares both the adventure and the narration.

(by Mary Walker): Superman has crashed, is crippled and

asking for help, and he thinks that he might be able to
take the man to a nearby shelter when they see a craft
manned by marauders from the future who have sapped
Superman's powers. Justin leads him through the sewers.
