-- English summary (from p. 150): "Three
Publishers in the Hot Seat. Guy Delcourt (of Delcourt
publishing house), Jacques Binsztok (of Le Seuil) and
Jean-Lous Gauthey (of Cornélius) discuss the present state
of the comics market in France." -- Call no.: folio

about power. He's just in it for the money and he's quickly
made a name for himself as a mercenary. Perhaps too big a

Summary: Tintin goes to visit Haddock and Calculus at Marlinspike Hall, and finds the Captain obsessed with the act of a magician named Bruno, who can turn water into whiskey. Tintin goes with him to see the show. First, a clairvoyant tells of a photographer who has fallen ill. Next General Alcazar does a knife-throwing act as Ramon Zarate. Then Bianca Castafiore sings, and Snowy begins howling so that that have to leave. They visit the General in his dressing room. Two days later they learn that not only a photographer but also Professor Sanders-Hardiman, both part of an archaeological expedition returned from Peru, have fallen mysteriously ill. Thomson and Thompson are investigating. Both victims are in a hypnotic sleep, and were found with pieces of broken crystal nearby. Ringing up the police laboratory for word on the analysis of the crystal fragments, they learn that a third member of the expedition has been stricken. Before long three more are in comas, and only Professor Tarragon remains. Tarragon is in possession of the mummy of Rascar Capac, he-who-unleashes-the-fire-of-heaven. They visit the Professor and a lightning storm comes up. A ball of lightning invades the house, chases people around, and explodes in the mummy's showcase. The mummy disappears. That night everyone in the house dreams of Rascar Capac with a ball of crystal invading their rooms, but it seems to have really happened only to Professor Tarragon, because he's in a coma. An intruder is fired upon but escapes. Next morning outside on the grounds, Calculus finds a bracelet that had been on the mummy, and then Calculus disappears. Tintin and Haddock find evidence of a struggle, and after an exchange of gunshots they are unable to prevent a car from leaving with Calculus as a prisoner. The next day at the hospital all seven patients are seen to go into seizures at the same time. Tracking Calculus' kidnappers to the docks at Westermouth, Tintin sees General Alcazar embarking for South America. Alcazar's knife-throwing act is over because his partner, a descendant of the Incas, disappeared on the same day the mummy disappeared. Tintin and Haddock go to Bridgeport to visit Captain Chester, but his ship the Sirius has sailed. They find Calculus' hat on the docks there, and deduce that he has been taken to Peru aboard the Pachacamac. Tintin, Haddock and Snowy leave for Peru by airplane. Continued in Prisoners of the Sun.

prisoner who has been sentenced to death and subsequently
executed, a prison guard finds a small piece of paper with
a combination of numbers on it. On the spur of the moment,
he puts it into his pocket. As the guard lives a solitary,
monotonous life, the numbers on the paper awake his
curiosity. To find out their hidden meaning could add a new
meaning to his life as well, so the guard stumbles into
situations in which the number or part of it seem to
achieve a certain importance and offer him hints and
possible solutions. And the numbers signal a radical change
in his luck. He gets to know a woman, falls in love with
her, and one night, in a casino, he wins a huge amount of
money when gambling on these numbers. But the next morning,
the woman and money have disappeared. The man goes in
search of the woman and the money. But from that day on,
his luck changes and the numbers bring him only bad luck,
