----------------------------------------------------- **** NEW CATALOGING, INDEXING AND CORRECTIONS FOR APRIL 1, 2016 ----------------------------------------------------- Le Nouveau Western de Jijé à Blanc-Dumont. -- Bruxelles : P. Briou, 1981. -- 32 p. : ill. ; 28 cm. -- Edited by Jean-Michel Briou. -- Summary: Briou says the new western reflects the modern approach to society, i.e., mirrors a collective conscience that is post-colonial. This is a collection of five short essays. Briou's first essay is a survey, in which he calls Buddy Longway the first "ecological" western. The second essay discusses stereotypes, women characters and racism, points out that there are few real workers in westerns, and that westerns reflect the social attitudes of the time they were created, not the times the supposedly depict. The third essay is signed "Anne-Isabelle Petit & M.D.B.," and is about Native American characters in Lucky Luke. The fourth is by Laurence Harlé, and is about women characters in westerns. The fifth, unsigned, is about the series Comancehe, which features a woman as the title character. -- Photocopy of original. -- Includes bibliographical references. -- Call no.: PN6714.N57 1981a ----------------------------------------------------- Captain Vos. -- Fenton, MI : Tim Retzloff, . -- ill. ; 14 cm. -- New wave and superhero genre. -- LIBRARY HAS: v. 4, no. 88 (1980). -- Call no.: PN6728.55.R45C3 ----------------------------------------------------- Yûgo = Yugo the Negotiator / Makari Shinji saku ; Akana Shû ga. -- Tôkyô : Kôdansha, 2004- . -- ill. ; 19 cm. -- (Ebuningu KC = Evening KC) -- Complete in 10 vols. -- Sequel to the first Yugo series from 1994. -- About hostage negotiations. -- LIBRARY HAS: v. 1. -- Call no.: PN6790.J33 A344Y82 2004 Makari, Shinji. After the recent death of his philandering father, he must confront the idea of his father's other family, and how much of his own identity has been shaped by his father's murky morals. At the same time, he begins to chronicle the life of street clowns, sad characters who populate the violent and corrupt city streets of Lima, and is drawn into their haunting, fantastical world. This remarkably affecting story by Daniel Alarcon was included in his acclaimed first book, War by Candlelight, and now, in collaboration with artist Sheila Alvarado, it takes on a new, thrilling form. This graphic novel, with its short punches of action and images, its stark contrasts between light and dark, truth and fiction, perfectly corresponds to the tone of Chino's story. With the city of Lima as a character, and the bold visual language from the story, City of Clowns is moving, menacing, and brilliantly vivid." -- Call no.: PN6790.P43 A4C513 2015 Alarcón, Daniel, 1977- ----------------------------------------------------- **** NEW CATALOGING, INDEXING AND CORRECTIONS FOR APRIL 8, 2016 ----------------------------------------------------- The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe : Master Edition. -- New York : Marvel Comics, 1990-1993. -- col. ill. ; 26 cm. -- Complete in 36 nos. -- Each number also called "vol. 3." -- Superhero dictionary. -- LIBRARY HAS: no. 1-36. -- Call no.: PN6725.G7 O4 1990 ----------------------------------------------------- Shatter. -- Evanston, IL : First Comics, 1985-1988. -- col. ill. ; 26 cm. -- Published no. 1 (Dec. 1985) - no. 14 (Apr. 1988). -- Science fiction genre. -- LIBRARY HAS: no. 1-14. -- Call no.: PN6728.5.F5S47 COMPLETE HOLDINGS ----------------------------------------------------- Will Eisner : Champion of the Graphic Novel / by Paul Levitz ; introduction by Brad Meltzer. -- New York : Abrams ComicArts, 2015. -- 214 p. : illustrations (some col.) ; 28 x 30 cm. -- Includes bibliographical references and index. -- Call no.: folio PN6727.E35 Z5L4 2015 ----------------------------------------------------- The Official Doctor Who Annual 2013. -- London : BBC Children's Books : Penguin, 2012. -- 61 p. : col. ill. ; 30 cm. -- Written and edited by Jason Loborik. -- Includes comics. -- Science fiction genre. -- Call no.: PN6738.D64 O34 2013 ----------------------------------------------------- Koko Be Good / Jen Wang. -- New York : First Second, 2010. -- 299 p. : col. ill. ; 22 cm. -- Summary (from publisher via OCLC): "Koko's always got a new project cooking, even though they usually end in total disaster. If she's being honest with herself, Koko isn't even sure what 'being good' means. Jon knows what being good means, and that's why he's going to Peru to support his girlfriend's humanitarian mission. That's good, all right, but is it what he wants? Jon has a promising future as a musician. Is he ready to give that up--maybe forever? Once again parodying Herge's Tintin in the Congo (1931), Kannemeyer exposes the contradictions and paradoxes of life in the postcolony. The artist is as provocative as he is playful, and does not spare himself the relentless, humorous scrutiny to which he subjects politicians, despots and his neighbours in the leafy suburbs. In addition to drawings, paintings and prints, the book features extended comics in which Kannemeyer traces the dawning of his political consciousness as a young white Afrikaans-speaking South African, whose life is entwined with the joys and realities of Africa. His comics and other singular images also confront and reflect on the racism embedded in language and the physical and mental violence ingrained in the deeply divided society in which he lives. -- Political genre cartoons and some comics. -- Call no.: PN6790.S63 K3P32 2015 ----------------------------------------------------- Demain les Dauphins / Miguelanxo Prado ; traduit de l'espagnol par Frank Reichert ; lettrage de Dom. -- Paris : Les Humanoïdes Associés, 1988. -- 1 v. : ill. ; 29 cm. -- Original title: Fragmentos de la Enciclopedia Delphica. -- Science fiction genre. -- Call no.: PN6777.P7F714 1988 ----------------------------------------------------- The Illustrated Story of the Beatles / by John Metcalf ; illustrated by Vic Metcalf. -- Johannesburg : Reaction!, 1991. -- 122 p. : ill. ; 29 cm. -- Historical genre. -- Call no.: ML421.B4M45 1991 ----------------------------------------------------- Fantasmagorie / Miguelanxo Prado. -- Saint-Egrève, France : Mosquito, 1999. -- 94 p. : col. ill. ; 23 cm. -- (Raconteur d'Images) -- In French and Spanish. -- Paintings and drawings. -- Call no.: PN6777.P7F3 1999 ----------------------------------------------------- The Lives of Marie Curie : a Woman in the History of Chemistry / Fiami ; translation, Julia Mills. -- Genève : Fiami, 2011. -- 40 p. : col. ill. ; 29 cm. -- Translation of: Les Vies de Marie Curie. -- Biographical genre. -- Call no.: QD22.C8F5313 2011 ----------------------------------------------------- Science : a Discovery in Comics / Margreet de Heer. -- New York : NBM, 2013. -- 189 p. : col. ill. ; 21 cm. -- Translated from the Dutch. -- Includes index. -- Translation of: Wetenschappen in Beeld. -- Summary (from publisher via OCLC): "In her easily accessible style, Margreet de Heer visualizes science and makes it approachable for those with little knowledge of the subject.
