"Apuntes de un Dibujante y una Entrevista" (Rafael Fornés
Collado) p. 191-202 in Revista Latinoamericana de Estudios
respuestas." -- Abstract: Practically unknown abroad and
regrettably forgotten in its homeland, 'Don Sabino' by
Rafael Fornés Collado was one of the most attractive comics
to have been created and published in Cuba in the years
1957-1963. The depth and inspiration of the work are
clearly to be seen in 'Notes of a Cartoonist' and
'Interview with Sabino Fornés,' published in the now
impossible to find January-August 1876 issue of Signos, the
stimulating Santa Clara magazine edited by Samuel Feijóo.
Because of their great interest, we present these materials
here again, which Fornés has wanted to revise, correct and
complete with new observations for this edition. We
attribute their authorship to him alone, since, as he has
told us, the interview was only an expedient format and he
wrote both the questions and the answers himself. --
Abstracts as printed with the article, with some editing
of the English. -- Includes samples of the Don Sabino
strip, which are signed "Fornés". -- Call no.:

Revista Latinoamericana de Estudios Sobre la Historieta, v.
2, no. 8 (Dic. 2002). -- Covers the 1950s through the
1980s. -- Resumen: "En este periodo la historieta peruana
conoce la popularidad, la proliferación (siempre relativa)
de soportes y obras, e incluso sequía creativa. Como los
grandes! Pero no durará." -- Abstract: In this period,
Peruvian comics have public success, a proliferation of
formats (relatively speaking), and even a touch of
creativity. Like the big ones! It will not last. --

"La Historieta en Chile (3)" / Cristian Eric Diaz Castro. p.
219-239 in Revista Latinoamericana de Estudios Sobre la
Historieta, v. 2, no. 8 (Dic. 2002). -- Covers the years
1950 to 1965.
-- Abstract: During
these years the challenge for Chilean comic books is to
change, or disappear from the newsstands. Former big guns
disappear despite the publishers' efforts. Only the
geniuses will survive the times, and this thanks to the
power of satire. Technological improvements bring changes
in publishing. The Zig-Zag publishing house undestands the
changing times and the tastes of the readers. This is how
the preamble to the golden age of the Chilean comic book
begins. -- Abstracts as printed with the article, with
some editing of the English. -- Includes sample comics by

-- Abstract: In spite all the many works being published
about the comic in Mexico, none have discovered or
described what will be seen as the first comic published in
the pages of the Mexican press in the 19th century. Among
other reasons this is because it was published in the pages
of the newspaper of the city of San Luis Potosi: La
Ilustración Potosina. The story of Rosa y Federico, it must
be said, is not a great jewel either of literature of the
Mexican lithograph, but its existence is important. --
