Blood from the Moon / written by Patrick Cothias ; illustrated by Adamov ; translated by Mary Irwin ; edited by Greg S. Baisden ; lettered by Mary Kelleher. -- Northampton, MA: Heavy Metal-Tundra Publishing, 1992. -- color ; 47 p. -- (Wind of the Gods ; 1) -- A second volume, titled Belly of the Dragon, was announced but has not been found. -- Call no.: PN6747.C65W513 1992

Summary: In 13th century Japan, one of Lord Daimyo's vassals, Bushi Kozo, explains his meager tax payments by saying his peasants are giving him trouble. Daimyo sends his best samurai, Tchen Qin, to lead Kozo and 10 other samurai in killing the rebels. The samurai quarrel among themselves, and then are ambushed by fighters who seem to know more than peasants should about strategy. Kozo survives and returns to Daimyo to plan another assault. Tchen Qin is wounded, falls into the river, and is presumed dead. Pimiko, the favorite concubine of Lord Daimyo but also Tchen Qin's lover, doesn't believe he can be dead and leaves by herself in search of Tchen Qin.

Summary: Joe Beaumont is a mean New York crime boss, and when his bodyguard Josh Leighton takes up with Joe's wife Gladys, Joe gets his revenge. Much of what Joe does is only implied in the storytelling, but it seems that he splits the lovers up. Josh becomes a prisoner in Joe's penthouse, and Gladys, now pregnant and using the name Dora, is set up as a single mom in a house in small-town America to raise her son Sam Leighton. Twenty years later Sam moves to New York with a job as a rookie detective. His first case, a serial killing, leads him to start investigating Joe Beaumont, a recluse few have seen. An ex-cop private eye named Philip Meadows steps in to help. Sam begins to have mysterious lapses in consciousness, and meets a young couple named Josh and Gladys. Sam has an affair with Gladys, knowing she's Beaumont's wife. Sam gets into Beaumont's penthouse with Gladys' help, and kills the man he finds there before he realizes it's really his prisoner father, Josh. Philip Meadows appears, announces that he is actually Joe Beaumont, and that the patricide has almost completed his revenge. He then frames Sam for the serial killings, and sends photographs of Sam in bed with Gladys, and of Sam killing Josh, to Dora, who kills herself. In a clue to the partially supernatural nature of the story, Beaumont is shown with devil's horns when he reveals himself to Sam.
