A Yankee Named Blueberry

A Yankee Named Blueberry / Jean-Michel Charlier, and Jean "Moebius" Giraud, co-creators ; Jean-Marc Lofficier, Randy Lofficier, translators/editors ; Jean-Jacques Surbeck, Bernd Metz, editors ; Jean "Moebius" Giraud, colors. -- New York : Catalan Communications, 1990. -- 56 p. : col. ill. ; 28 cm. -- (Young Blueberry ; 2) -- (Comcat Comics) -- Originally published in 1979 as: La Jeunesse de Blueberry 2: Un Yankee nommé Blueberry. -- These chapters continue the story begun in Blueberry's Secret and continued in The Blue Coats. -- Western genre. -- Call no.: PN6747.C44Y3613 1990

Chapter 4: "Death Ride" p. 5-20 -- Summary: While trying to rejoin his Union unit, Mike Blueberry is captured by Rebels commanded by his enemy Lewis Norton. The Rebels are wearing Yankee uniforms they took from the men who came behind the lines with Blueberry. In a prison camp waiting for execution, Mike convinces a soldier to help him escape in exchange for a share of money Mike's parents buried on their plantation. They make it to Redwood with Blueberry at gunpoint, and Blueberry is saved by one of his father's slaves (there never was any money).

Chapter 5: "Man Hunt" p. 21-36 -- Summary: Trying to get back to the North, Blueberry's horse dies and Lewis Norton is close on his trail. He sneaks around in a town looking for a horse, and gets arrested for horse stealing. Escaping from the sheriff, he kills a Rebel messenger and takes his clothes. The messenger has important strategic information, and Mike tries to get it to the Union army. He leads Lewis Norton into captivity by Union soldiers, and they can't read so they don't believe his story about the message. Mike goes into a Union prison camp.

Chapter 6: "Private Mike S. Blueberry" p. 37-52 -- Summary: After several days, Mike Blueberry is still unable to convice the Union army that his information about Confederate plans is genuine, and that he's not a spy. He is on the point of being executed when events prove him right. Still under guard and still wearing the Rebel uniform, he is "rescued" by the Southern army. In their camp, he gets a job delivering another important message, doubles back and blows up a Rebel munitions train.

"Nuggets and Thieves" p. 55-56 -- Summary: A "gag" western story, first published in Total Journal in 1956. A prospector finds a gold nugget, and a robber tries several times to take it from him.
