Sagarmatha / Willy Vandersteen ; script and drawings, Paul Geerts. -- Edinburgh : Intes International, 1998. -- 56 p. : col. ill. ; 27 cm. -- (The Greatest Adventures of Spike and Suzy ; 1) -- An adventure of Suske en Wiske, in English. -- Call no.: PN6790.N44W5S3 1998

Summary: A mysterious crate labelled "Mount Everest Belgian Expedition 1988-89" falls from a truck near Aunt Sidonia's house. Soon a small tent appears in the garden, and household items, mainly furniture, start to disappear. While investigating, Spike, Suzy, Sidonia, Ambrose and Jethro soon find themselves magically transported to the slopes of Everest, and re-united with their furniture. Ambrose spends the night with a furry creature who is a bear, and not a yeti. The bear has trouble explaining it to her husband the next morning. Soon they all fall down the slopes and meet a monk who takes them to see the head lama of his monastery. The head lama is impressed, and says they've been visited by the three sons of Sagarmatha. He shows them a secret painting which tells the story. Sagarmatha is the name of Everest, the highest mountain, who is also Goddess of the Earth. Another mountain, called Khang-ri, is a jealous and bad god. Each has three sons to do Earthly work. At this point the good sons need to report to their mother (and bring furniture as gifts) and the bad sons are preventing that. Our friends decide to help the good sons climb to the top of Everest, because if they don't Everest will crumble and Khang-ri will be highest. In the course of the climb both sets of sons become visible. Aunt Sidonia is captured and hung from the roof of a cave, and Suzy falls down a crevasse and is trapped. The goddess Sagarmatha appears in human form, and the god Khang-ri appears as a demon. The goddess and demon struggle, but Sagarmatha is more interested in rescuing Suzy, which she does. Ambrose tries to tell the goddess that he's in charge, but she replies, "Who can be in charge of friendship?" And she whisks them back to their house, furniture and all.
