"Rockabye Berries!" (Popeye) / Bud Sagendorf. 16 p. in
   Popeye, no. 10 (Dec./Jan. 1949/1950). -- Summary (by Amy
Lazet): "A Lethargic Tale of Slumbering Horror and the
Snoozing Sleepers of a Drowsy Island." A banging on the
door brings Popeye running: King Blozo needs his help. The
inhabitants of Spinachova, King Blozo's land, have fallen
asleep and no one can wake them. The King convinces Popeye,
Olive Oyl, Wimpy and Swee'pea to come to his country to
rouse his sleeping people. Unbeknownst to them, the almost
forgotten original people of the island of Spinachova, the
Big-Eared Pygmies, have hatched a nefarious scheme. By
crossing onions with huckleberries, they have developed
"rocakabye berries," which induce sleep. Popeye, the King,
and Olive Oyl pretend to be asleep and are taken by the
Pygmies. Olive convinces their leader to tell her why he
has committed these dastardly deeds. The Pygmies don't like
spinach, so they have captured King Blozo's subjects to
plant the farms with carrots instead. In return for
planting some carrots in addition to spinach the Pygmies
agree to let their victims go, but it is up to Popeye and
Olive to awaken everyone by tickling their feet with a
special feather. -- Call no.: PN6728.1.D4P57no.10

Pyramids

Martin Mystery gives a slide show that includes the Pyramids of Giza and then goes to Belize where he proves an ancient Egyptian/Mayan connection in his adventure The Revenge of Ra. In the first and last stories of the Nikopol trilogy by Enki Bilal, the aliens/gods appear in a hovering pyramid-shaped spaceship. The series of stories by Moebius that can loosely be called "The Aedena Cycle" includes two stories with a prominent pyramid, titled in English "Upon a Star" and "The Gardens of Aedena." Likewise by Moebius, the story "Deima" shows us pyramids, and is available in the 1996 version of Arzach. Again by Moebius, with Jodorowsky, a couple of pyramids are assembled into a spaceship in the Incal chapter titled in English "The Portal of Transfiguration" in Incal 2 (Epic Comics, 1988) or "The Door of the Transfiguration" (in Heavy Metal (June 1984)). Hergé's fictional Latin American country, San Theodoros, includes a pre-Colombian pyramid as a tourist attraction in the album Tintin and the Picaros. The cube that sets off the fever in the Schuiten and Peeters story Fever in Urbicand appears from a distance to be a pyramid (see chapter 5). During construction in Egypt, Astérix and Obelix get themselves locked in a pyramid and have to be rescued by Dogmatix (that's in Asterix and Cleopatra).

(from dust jacket): Andalusian shepherd boy Santiago
travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert
in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the
way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king,
and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the
direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is,
or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along
the way. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly
goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within.

"The Super Race" (Blackhawk) 10 p. in Blackhawk, no. 103
(Aug. 1956). -- Summary (by Tatum Walker): The Blackhawks
are sent on a mission to recover a missing team in
Madagascar. They ignore native warnings of a cursed
mountain pyramid, and are captured and taken underground by
members of a strangely dressed native culture. The natives
call themselves a super race, The Deros, and they call
their underground caves Lemuria. The Deros say that one day
the world will fear them. Their leader is Donnerwetter, one
of Hitler's most infamous generals. The Nazi general has
been grooming an underground army to take over the world.
The Blackhawks can't let that happen. With a little
ingenuity and a little lighter fuel they lock the super
race in a chamber and let the Earth's core set them ablaze.
