Pearls of Love

Pearls of Love / Levis, Leroi. -- Cha Cha Comics, 1991. -- 49 p. : ill. ; 30 cm. -- Translated by Detlef Goebler. -- "Adults only." -- Translation of: Les Perles de l'Amour. -- Erotic genre. -- Call no.: PN6747.L44P3813 1991

Summary: The setting is India, in colonial times. Captain Henry Johns is engaged to Virginia Hastings. They are having an interlude in the forest, when he notices a diamond in her navel, and asks her about it. It was given to her by the Rahjah himself. This seems to upset Henry. The next day on a tiger hunt, Henry saves the life of the Rahjah, and the Rahjah asks how he can repay the debt. Henry says he only wants to know where the Rahjah got the diamond given to Virginia, and the Rahjah refuses to answer. Confiding in Virginia's father, Henry explains that the diamond belonged to Baron Crawley, whose daughter Gladys is missing. Henry is sworn to return her to England if he can, and now thinks she must be in the Rahjah's palace. Henry sneaks into the harem, where "incessant lascivious orgies take place," and escapes with Gladys. When the news gets out about what Henry has done, Virginia's stepmother says Henry has dishonored the British Crown. Virginia objects and the stepmother has her whipped. In the jungle, Henry and Gladys are captured by anti-colonial rebels. Their leader says that any enemy of the Rahjah is an enemy of his, and gives them refuge. When Virginia learns that Henry is in the hands of the rebels, she gets her father to try to save him. On the way their car breaks down, and the Rahjah's army, supposedly on a similar mission, finds them. The Rahjah decides to tame Virginia for himself, and has her father tied up. Henry is nearby, and tries to break it up, and Gladys tries to save Henry, but soon the Rahjah has taken both women to his snakepit and left Henry far behind. Gladys and Virginia are being lowered by a machine into the pit, when Henry arrives with Virginia's father and saves them. Henry says he can't stay with Virginia right now, he has to send Gladys off to England. Virginia is jealous and angry. Henry and Gladys leave, the Rahjah comes back, and Virginia says she will be his if he brings her the head of Gladys Crawley. The Rahjah tries, but Henry manages to get Gladys onto the train safely. Henry himself takes a bullet through the head at the train station, and wakes up blind in a hospital. He is convicted of treason, for crimes agains the Rahjah. Virginia is a nurse at the same hospital, and goes to the Rahjah to ask for mercy for Henry. Instead of taking the request seriously, the Rahjah reveals that he is also the rebel leader. He starts dragging her away, when British soldiers interrupt them. The revelation about the Rahjah's dual identity changes Henry's legal status, and soon he and Virginia are back in Britain. There Gladys has been reunited with her former lover, Lord Ashley, now a widower, and the two couples share a wedding ceremony.
