Commies, Combat Kelly and his pal Cookie Novak are faced
with an unexpected surrender by a group of Reds. Although
suspicious, Kelly and Cookie take the men back to
headquarters. When questioned, the Commies mutter a name

Larissa Sansour is from Palestine and lives in Copenhagen.
These two artists have created a very special graphic novel
that raises questions on artistic practice, the nature of
authority and art and politics, and offers an eye-opening
take on Palestine. All this assumes particular importance
considering that these artists come from both sides of the
Middle Eastern divide. Nonel and Vovel, the artists' alter

"La Novela Gráfica como una Opción Sustentable para la
Industria de Historietas de Países en Desarrollo : El Caso
del Artist Brasileño Lourenço Mutarelli" / Waldomiro
Vergueiro, Lucimar Ribeiro Mutarelli. p. 105-113 in Revista
-- Summary: "Since Will Eisner's A Contract with God, the
comics market has seen the development of graphic novels as
a new and alternative format for publication. However, in
developing countries, due to economic and market
constraints, local artists have not always preferred
graphic novels as a medium for disseminating their work.
Foreign graphic novels can be seen quite often in
developing countries, but few native artists have really
tried to produce them. In Brazil, for instance, the artists
still prefer to create comic strips or stories for comic
books. Most of the Brazilian graphic novels are still
published outside of the commercial market, using the
alternative channels for production and distribution common
to underground comics and fanzines. Considering these
circumstances, the authors propose that the graphic novel
can be a viable option for the production of the artists of
developing countries. The Brazilian comics market, and the
career of Lourenço Mutarelli, one of its most distinguished
artists, are also analysed." -- Abstracts as printed with
the article. -- Includes illustrations and bibliographical
references. -- Lourenço Mutarelli was born in 1964. -- Call

Second Thoughts / by Niklas Asker. -- Marietta, Ga. : Top
   Shelf, 2009. -- 73 p. : ill. ; 22 cm. -- "Jess is a
novelist without a novel. John is a photographer running
away to New York. Though it only lasts a moment, their
brief encounter in Stansted Airport will transform both
their lives. How do you measure the distance between
satisfaction and settling? At what point does wishful
thinking take on a life of its own? In 'Second thoughts,'
the clean, emotional ink-work of Swedish newcomer Niklas
Asker guides two characters, in two worlds, through modern
city life and love. Reality and fiction overlap in this
haunting, deceptive, and inspiring graphic novel about the
lives we imagine for ourselves, the lives we imagine for
others, and the lives we ultimately must live." --
