desperately in love with Jan, the farmer boy next door. Her
whole reason for existing is to love Jan, and he loves her.
Although he can't afford to marry her, he shows her the
ring that had been his mother's before his parents died. At
night, Nina dreams of the ring and of being with Jan
forever. One day, while bringing Jan his lunch, Nina finds
him with a beautiful stranger in his arms! Nina runs away,
crushed. Later that day Jan brings the stranger to her
house and introduces her as Hannah, whose car has broken
down. Hannah stays with Nina for a few days, and spends
more and more time with Jan. Nina even stays home while Jan
and Hannah go to a dance, and while they're away Nina sees
that Jan's house is on fire. She finds Hannah running away,
and finds Jan unconscious in the burning building with the
ring in his hand. She wakes him up. Because of this rescue,
