Summary: Axel Feldheim has been living with Doro (Dorothy) for three years, when she decides he's too insensitive to her and leaves. He fakes a suicide attempt, then joins a men's support group. The men's group has invited Waltrina, a gay man, to help them understand things, and Waltrina is attracted to Axel and invites him to a drag party. Axel is lonely and goes to the party. He's shocked at some of the things he sees, and gets very drunk and goes home with Norbert. Norbert is interested in Axel, but Axel is still preoccupied with the thought of Doro. Still just feeling lonely, and noticing that Norbert can cook and do laundry, Axel moves into Norbert's apartment temporarily. Meanwhile Doro has been looking everywhere for Axel, because she's discovered she's pregnant and realized she still loves him. Then Casablanca shows on TV, and Alex returns to his own apartment with Norbert to tape it. Norbert has never seen the movie, so they get comfortable in the bedroom and watch it. Doro knows about Axel's obsession with Casablanca, and knocks on his door hoping to catch him. She also catches Norbert, and exhibits hostility. Axel is ready to go back to Doro, and tells Norbert he can't hang around with him any more. Norbert is very unhappy, but shows up at the wedding in drag with Waltrina and Francine, the cross-dressers that Axel has gotten to know. Doro says that if she sees them one more time she's filing for divorce. To be continued.

Maybe-- Maybe Not Again! / Ralf König ; translated by Jeff Krell. -- New York City : Ignite! Entertainment, 1999. -- 115 p. : ill. ; 23 cm. -- Translation of: Pretty Baby. -- Call no.: PN6757.K6P713 1999

"Trouble in Paradise" p. 6-29 -- Summary: Doro's baby is almost due, and while she and Axel are out for a walk they see Norbert and Waltrina. Waltrina asks if they're feeling "normal," and this precipitates a long argument between Doro and Axel, partly about her suspicion that he's really gay.

"Muscle Queens" p. 30-45 -- Summary: Norbert joins a gym, and almost passes out after a minute on the stationary bicycle. Frank, another gay man at the gym, comments on Norbert's husband Horst's sexual dysfunction. Norbert speculates about the nature of heterosexuality.

"Elke Schmidt" p. 46-61 -- Summary: Axel comes to visit Norbert to talk about his problems, and as he's leaving runs into an old friend, Elke. Doro is leaving for the weekend so Axel invites Elke to his place for sex.

"Commitments" p. 62-78 -- Summary: Jutta comes to visit Doro, and while she's there Doro tells Axel her weekend trip is cancelled. From Axel's reaction Jutta deduces that he's planning an affair. Axel calls and makes an arrangement to use Norbert's apartment for his meeting with Elke. Doro finds the telephone number and realizes that he has called Norbert.

"Primal Urges" p. 79-116 -- Summary: Axel and Elke are in Norbert's apartment while Norbert, Waltrina, and Horst are at the movies. Elke gives Axel a drug to enhance his performance, but he only sits there. The guys get into a fight at the theater and have to return early, to find Axel naked and grunting on the coffee table. Doro arrives to confront Axel, and goes into labor. Meanwhile Horst is in the bathtub having sex with Elke. Norbert drives Doro to the hospital and is forced by a misunderstanding to be present at the birth of Axel's son. Waltrina gets Axel sobered up and takes him to the hospital where the family of three is united. Waltrina and Norbert figure that Horst has probably married Elke already, so they go dancing.
