via OCLC): "From bestselling author Max Brooks, the
riveting story of the highly decorated, barrier-breaking,
historic black regiment--the Harlem Hellfighters. The
Harlem Hellfighters is a fictionalized account of the 369th
Infantry Regiment--the first African American regiment
mustered to fight in World War I. From the enlistment lines
in Harlem to the training camp at Spartanburg, South
Carolina, to the trenches in France, bestselling author Max
Brooks tells the thrilling story of the heroic journey that
these soldiers undertook for a chance to fight for America.
Despite extraordinary struggles and discrimination, the
369th became one of the most successful--and least
celebrated--regiments of the war. The Harlem Hellfighters,
as their enemies named them, spent longer than any other
American unit in combat and displayed extraordinary valor
on the battlefield. Based on true events and featuring
artwork from acclaimed illustrator Caanan White, these
pages deliver an action-packed and powerful story of

Maria, humanity's outermost defense, has just been

   references (leaves 197-236). -- Photocopy. -- Abstract:
During their brief six-year run, EC's "New Trend" titles
showed a sophistication unknown in the modest comic book
form before or since, tackling such difficult topics as the
role of the family, racial and sexual discrimination, and
American foreign policy abroad through a variety of genres:
war, crime, science-fiction and satire. The gaudy and often
violent style of these stories made them easy targets of a
Senate subcommittee investigation of juvenile delinquency
held in the Spring of 1954, prompted in part by the furor
caused by Dr. Frederic Werthan's book Seduction of the
Innocent (1954). This study will explore the motivations
and faulty logic behind Wertham's book, the reasons EC
Comics were controversial in the 1950s, and why they remain
so popular to this day. Consequently, the reader will
understand why William M. Gaines' EC Comics were a
watershed in the history of American popular culture, and
an important historical phenomenon of the 1950s. -- Call

children's cartoon cause riots? One of Mana Neyestani's
cartoons sparked riots, shuttered the newspaper he worked
for, and landed the cartoonist and his editor in solitary
confinement inside of Iran's notorious prison system. But
that's not the whole story. Neyestani exposes the complex
interplay between art, law, politics, ethnic sensitivities,
and authoritarian elements inside of Iran's Islamic
Republic. In his journey to escape imprisonment, the artist
travels from Iran to Dubai, Turkey, Malaysia, all the way
to China. Along the way he shines a light on the dangerous
and convoluted measures taken by refugees in their attempts
to find safety and freedom. Mana Neystani's story is at
once unique, universal, and truly Kafkaesque." --

Darth Vader and Son / Jeffrey Brown. -- San Francisco :

Summary (from publisher via OCLC): "What if Darth Vader
took an active role in raising his son? What if 'Luke, I am
your father' was just a stern admonishment from an annoyed
dad? In this hilarious and sweet comic reimagining, Darth
Vader is a dad like any other, except with all the baggage
of being the Dark Lord of the Sith. Celebrated artist
Jeffrey Brown's delightful illustrations give classic Star
Wars moments a fresh twist, presenting the trials and joys
of parenting through the lens of a galaxy far, far away.
Life lessons include lightsaber batting practice, using the
Force to raid the cookie jar, Take Your Child to Work Day
on the Death Star ('Er, he looks just like you, Lord
