A Vagrant" takes readers on a romp through history and literature--with dignity for few and cookies for all--with comic strips about famous authors, their characters, and political and historical figures, all drawn in Kate Beaton's pared-down, excitable style. This collection features favorite stories as well as new, previously unpublished content. Whether she's writing about Nikola Tesla, Napoleon, or Nancy Drew, Beaton brings a refined sense of the absurd to every situation. -- Call no.: PN6733.B36H3 2011 Beaton, Kate, 1983- ----------------------------------------------------- Tepid. -- Westmont, IL : John Hankiewicz, 2000- . -- ill. ; 28 cm. -- Alternative genre. -- LIBRARY HAS: Summer 2003. -- Call no.: PN6727.H283T4 ----------------------------------------------------- Teratoid Heights / by Mat Brinkman. -- Brooklyn, NY : Highwater Books, 2003. -- 1 v. : ill. ; 16 cm. -- Horror and alternative genres. -- Call no.: PN6727.B653T4 2003 Brinkman, Mat, 1973- ----------------------------------------------------- Southpaw / Scott Morse. -- Richmond, VA : AdHouse Books, 2003. -- 1 v. : ill. ; 16 cm. -- Alternative genre. -- Call no.: PN6727.M625S675 2003 ----------------------------------------------------- Festering Romance / Renee Lott. -- Portland, OR : Oni Press, 2009. -- 184 p. : ill. ; 23 cm. -- Summary (from SkyRiver): Janet happily spends her free time in college playing video games with the ghost of her best friend, Paul, but her living friends have other ideas and begin to set Janet up on a series of blind dates with the hope she will discover romance. -- Romance and alternative genres. -- Call no.: PN6727.L615F4 2009 ----------------------------------------------------- Yankee Humor. -- New York : Consolidated Features, 1927- . -- ill. ; 29 cm. -- A humor and cartoon magazine. -- LIBRARY HAS: v. 1, no. 3 (1928). -- Call no.: AP101.Y28 ----------------------------------------------------- 87th Precinct. no. 2, July-Sept. 1962. -- New York : Dell Publishing Co., 1962. -- 32 p. : col. ill. ; 26 cm. -- Numbering continues from Four Color no. 1309, which was considered by the publisher to be "no. 1." -- Detective genre. -- Call no.: PN6728.3.D4E352 1962 ----------------------------------------------------- "Countdown on Excellence" 1 p. in House of Mystery, no. 134 (May 1963). -- Begins: "You were supposed to clean up the garage, Jerry, but you didn't do a very good job." -- "Published as a public service in cooperation with the National Social Welfare Assembly, coordinating organization for national health, welfare and recreation agencies of the U.S." -- Call no.: PN6728.2.N3H6no.134 ----------------------------------------------------- "Someone's Been Here Before Me!" 8 p. in House of Mystery, no. 134 (May 1963). -- Begins: It was a one-in-a-million chance that rescued him from the black void of space and gave him anew life on an alien world." -- Call no.: PN6728.2.N3H6no.134 ----------------------------------------------------- "The Microscopic Doom" / Meskin. 8 p. in House of Mystery, no. 134 (May 1963). -- Begins: "The only way anyone could see the jam we were in would be by peering through a magnifying glass!" -- Call no.: PN6728.2.N3H6no.134 ----------------------------------------------------- "Take Care, Take Care, Take Care"* (Moolah the Mystic) / Henry Boltinoff. 1 p. in House of Mystery, no. 134 (May 1963). -- Begins: "I can hardly speak, my throat is so sore." -- Call no.: PN6728.2.N3H6no.134 ----------------------------------------------------- "Mystery of the Mentalists" 1 p. text in House of Mystery, no. 134 (May 1963). -- Begins: "Not long ago, a woman in the midwest suddenly awakened from a deep sleep." -- Call no.: PN6728.2.N3H6no.134 ----------------------------------------------------- "The Secret Prisoner of Darkmoor Dungeon" 9 p. in House of Mystery, no. 134 (May 1963). -- Begins: "The arrest and imprisonment of the vagrant, or whatever he was, should have been the end of it, but it wasn't!" -- Call no.: PN6728.2.N3H6no.134 ----------------------------------------------------- "Gift-Wrapped Mummy"* (Professor Eureka) 1 p. in House of Mystery, no. 134 (May 1963). -- Begins: "I found it! Everyone there has a story to tell, and at times they end up revealing more than they want to. On their journey to China, Kona and Kuja, bound together by fate, stumble upon the trail of the Floating Island, promised land of plenty. Pema's story is about lost love, while her husband speaks of homesick Japanese soldiers in Manipur and the Naga hills during World War II. The Prophet takes us back to the quest for the Floating Island, leading us to the little girl's story as she sets out to fetch water and chances upon something quite unexpected. Drawing from various oral storytelling and folklore traditions, and with influences ranging from Commando war comics to World War II history and Buddhist art, Parismita Singh creates a world that's magical and yet very real.
