Summary: The Black Hawk ("Faucon Noir") arrives on the British coast, at St. Malo, commanded by the mutineer Antonio Morales. Thinking Captain Redbeard ("Barbe-Rouge") is dead, his loyal officers have come to St. Malo as well to notify his son Eric, and to deliver his inheritance. At this time the inheritance consists only of a map to the pirate Morgan's treasure, and the loyalty of the two officers, Baba and Triple-patte. Morales also learns about Eric, and tries to kill him. Eric, Baba and Triple-patte turn the tables, seize the ship, get a crew and provisions, and set sail for Tierra del Fuego, all in a night. Morales and his men are left on shore. After ten days, however, Morales has a new ship and Eric is becalmed in the South Atlantic, giving Morales time to catch up. Still, it is only after a month of disastrously bad weather around Cape Horn that Eric and his crew find Dead Man's Island ("L'Ile de l'Homme Mort") and Morgan's treasure. They are then immediately overtaken by Morales. Morales gets the upper hand and is about to hang Eric's officers when a third pirate ship arrives with its guns blazing at Morales's ship. It's Redbeard himself, and Eric, the Black Hawk, the treasure, and the day are all saved. Morales is killed in the action while his ship is being boarded. Captain Redbeard explains that he, himself, was never really dead. Eric says he doesn't want to be a pirate, and goes home.
