-- English summary (from p.
150): "Comic Cuts and Illustrated Chips : the Industrial
and Aesthetic Model of Harmsworth. In 1890, a young editor
by the name of Alfred Harmsworth launched an illustrated
newspaper which was only half the price of all the
competition. 'Comic Cuts' established the basis of the
popular British press for a long time. 'Illustrated Chips'
was a sister publication whose most noteworthy contributor
was artist Tom Browne (Weary Willie and Tired Tim) who, as
Mike Kidson shows, considerably modernized the graphic
style of English comics." -- Call no.: folio PN6700.N44no.7
